Pence seems to be leaning toward a White House run

That's good news for those wanting to hear some fiscal sanity.

Indiana 6th District U.S. Rep. Mike Pence has been hinting coyly for months that he might seek higher office. When he quit his House leadership role shortly after winning re-election, that put some substance behind the hints. But which race was he aiming at – the GOP gubernatorial primary or the presidential contest? It now appears it is the White House that Pence seeks, not the governor's mansion.

In a major speech this week to the Detroit Economic Club, Pence laid out the major economic course he thinks this country must follow to bring about a return to prosperity.

That is good news both for Hoosiers and the rest of the country. Indianapolis has plenty of the kind of fiscal sanity Pence represents – witness the current occupant of the governor's office. But Washington is in dire need of a massive dose.

In the speech, Pence outlined his economic vision, says The Associated Press, saying the U.S. needs to implement a flat tax, a spending limit amendment to the Constitution and other reforms designed to put the country's “fiscal house in order.” His plan could be summed up by five letters, he said: S-T-A-R-T, which stands for sound monetary policy; tax relief and reform; access to American energy; regulatory reform; and trade.

Good. At least one conservative. Now let's get Bolton and DeMint in there too.

He was the only one who had a real alternative to TARP.

Absolutely. Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio in key Cabinet positions.

I’d hate to take Ryan out of the House. They desperately need his brains there. But he’s a youngen still.

I don’t know if they brought up the monetary aspect. We can talk about freddie mac and the CRA but the federal reserve had a big role in creating this mess.

I like him best out of all the potential nominees...I just hope he doesn’t turn into the Duncan Hunter of 2012-as in gaining absolutely no traction.

Well, before he was a congressman he hosted his own daily radio program out of Indianapolis. But from my point of view, he might be the one I’d follow over the cliff because I agree with him on so many things.

Well, he’d be wise to adopt Hunter’s positions, particularly on amnesty, if he hasn’t already.
