Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Until that time, Palin is the most conservative with the most name recognition.
mike Reagan:::
If some media reports are correct a dangerous assumption nowadays when media skepticism has given way to unquestioned Obama worship former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says the GOP needs to abandon nostalgia for the Reagan era.
Im inclined to doubt the accuracy of that report since Jeb Bush was probably the best governor Florida ever had, and one who clung ferociously to the Republican principles exemplified by my father, Ronald Reagan.
Even if he did say something silly like that, my argument with him and Mitt Romney and the other participants in the so-called listening tour is not about my dad, but about the absurdity of a listening tour designed to tutor Republican bigwigs on what the public really wants from government. My short answer to that question is that I want the government to get the hell out of our way and let us act like the free people our founding fathers wanted us to be, and not like subjects of an all-knowing, all-powerful federal government.
The listening tour is nothing but Republican gimmickry. The reality is that had they been listening over the past four years of the Bush presidency they would have seen the disaster of 2006 coming and they would have seen the catastrophe of 2008 coming.
Instead, they turned a deaf ear to the Republican conservatives not only on Capitol Hill, but to those out across America.
They lost in 2006 and 2008 because they stopped listening to the nostalgia for the conservative principles which guided my dads administrations.
[...]
If the GOP listeners want to know what the conservative majority among voters want and are thinking about, all they need to do is listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and in all modesty Mike Reagan.
Our voices are the voice of the majority of Republican voters and open-minded independents. We dont have tens of millions of listeners every day because we have a message that contradicts the opinion of our audience we have such a vast army of listeners because they recognize that we are echoing their own opinions and telling them they are right in thinking as they do. They recognize gimmicky when they see it. Watching TV this morning, I saw a pornography star who is running for the United States Senate announcing that she is on guess what a listening tour, to learn if voters want her to make the run for Capitol Hill. It seems Republicans arent the only ones using gimmickry these days.
If Republicans had really been listening, theyd still be in control of the House and Senate and there would be a Republican in the White House.
They didnt listen then, and they arent listening now. If they start listening, what theyll hear is a demand that the Republican Party get back to the principles and beliefs embodied by Ronald Reagan, and get back to the principles of genuine conservatism which echo Thomas Jeffersons sage advice that a people who fear government cannot be free, but a government that fears the people is a government where the people are the masters and the state is their servant.
Finally, it isnt nostalgia for the Reagan era we need to forget, but the big government, wild-spending of Jeb Bushs brother Georges administration.
Unless the last name is Thatcher, slim chance Id be pushing a chick for prez.
A. Thatcher is a woman.
B. Pissant likes Thatcher.
C. Pissant likes women.
Or..A + B = C
Since I dont think they should even be able to vote, what makes you think Id want one as CIC.
Pissant is a traditionalist, following in the footsteps of our Founding Fathers. Were our Founding Fathers misogynists? No. Therefore:
A. Our Founding Fathers were not misogynists.
B. Pissant shares similar beliefs with our Founding Fathers.
C. Pissant is not a misogynist.
A + B = C.
RE :”This one has already disintegrated into an attack on Duncan Hunter. LOL”
Maybe they think that is who you really are.
He's a troll, someone who has a party of one (Falcon), someone who has a delusion that by repeating liberal talking points to help discourage the conservative base against a front runner for the nomination, he can mysteriously resurrect the candidacy of his one true love, Duncan Hunter.
It's really shameful what he does here, taking one of the bright stars of the conservative base and tearing her down in order to sow confusion. No, it's not just shameful, it's downright disgusting.
His talking points:
1. ALL Palin supporters are worshippers.
2. She's secretly an amnesty supporter because she supported John McCain (he has the secret decoder ring whenever she does strange things, like supporting the AZ law, calling for border security at all costs, etc.).
3. She once wrote a letter supporting the LOST treaty so Alaska wouldn't have it's rightful natural resources taken by other countries.
4. She's a woman, and we can't have any woman other than Margaret Thatcher (who he wouldn't have supported when she was running, because she was a woman.).
6. She's dumb, screechy, and has a reality show that is, well...... dumb and screechy.
7. Then he goes on to insult anyone who dares come against his talking points, never actually debating or discussing anything they say.
Frankly you attribute to him too much in the way of intellectual argument (of which he has little), and too much in the way of good intentions. He and about six other trolls come on every Palin thread they can and say the same things over and over again, and they will never address the points that counter what they say.
It's despicable, it makes the KOS kiddies laugh at us while this very small group trolls around like juvenile delinquents with nothing to say but repeating liberal talking points.
I’m sorry that you feel that way. I tried to inject a little humour into this conversation, but apparently I failed.
Btw, it's not a "feeling", it's a spot on observation of the man's posting. He has little of any integrity on this matter, and does everything I said in that post. He's perfectly defined when he's called a troll.
I would say to him FUJB. He can only dream that there was nostalgia” for his family. ( beyond a few nutcases)
It was not that all of Reagan's policies (bills signed) were perfect, It was that Reagan attracted voters to conservatism and conservative principles that made him so great, unlike the Bush's that did the opposite. Reagan as president today probably wouldn't know what to do with todays national mess.
However, these threads do attract real trolls, some of whom are fairly recent to this site.
I won't continue with the list of negatives, I think they speak for themselves.
Right now, we are in a huge battle with the the leftist Obamcrats, and rather than focusing against what they are doing, he's focusing on trying to sow confusion and doubt in the conservative base about one of the few public figures that are standing, fighting, and making a difference against the left.
I'm sorry if I find that despicable, but the half dozen trolls that do that kind of stuff here need to be called out in what they are doing. Right now, he's their "leader". They love the crap he posts and enjoy the doubt and confusion they sow.
I didn’t read all of this thread, so I wonder if anyone got zotted, or was nothing worthwhile accomplished? (I know that pissant is somehow still here).
I agree that it makes sense to be more focused. This is a private site with specific goals. Allowing an aggressive and vocal group of detractors to continuously work against those goals is a hindrance and a distraction.
If someone was zotted, I’m not aware of it, but I went to bed at 8:30 last night. :)
I know that on Sundays at 9pm I was supposed to be watching DWTS or SP's Alaska, or whatever it was, but I've been watching Brit Hume's 6 part series on Conservatives, past & present. This past Sunday, he was at the RR era.
Big difference. I had to chuckle when WFB,Jr told the story about RR putting a further explanation fleshing out his positions on a topic that he and WFB had been discussing earlier that evening. The explanation was 10 pages long, and he put it under WFB's door.
Of course, today, I'm very sure that RR would have simply tweeted something....
I do not consider pissant a "troll". He does not live in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. (Ok, that was supposed to inject a little levity into this thread)
Anyway, what if he were a "troll"? No one forces anyone to respond to any postings, no matter how provacative they may be.
I sincerely wish you a very good day, Mr Lakeshark.
Just a little humor there.......
Ok, I’m smiling...
You should post one of those smiles........
I think there's a relevant quote you should post as well. It goes something like this:
"May we always be happy, and may our enemies know it"
Apologies if I butchered the quote......
However, I have no way of knowing whether that quote was butchered by Mrs Palin in the first place.
/end snark
