Feral cats, even ones found as kittens will always act "wilder" and be more destructive. Even when supplied with scratching posts, they will still tear up stuff, including your hands and arms when you try to play with them. My young cat is an indoor cat and will always be so. I've had indoor cats before and they've never gotten out because I'm careful and aware that it could end their life to get out. It was either the kitten was declawed or she went to the shelter with her siblings. I most likely saved her life as only feral kittens younger than 6 to 8 weeks are salvageable. She was borderline.
Well...thanks for that info...we were wondering about our “feral” kitten and his “wildness.” He is much more aggressive than any other cat we’ve had..and then, on the other hand, he loves us, and puts himself down for a nap inside his “cage” (a dog carrier) when he gets tired, and will lay on our 10 yr old lab/aussie mix dog at times(but would rather play with her)....he has really been great...although his attacking me pisses me off. Tonight I’m bringing the water spray bottle to the sofa...he seems to understand that in other areas of the house!
We have a cat about a year old, and we’ve been considering declawing her (front paws of course.)
Normally I wouldn’t care, but she has a fondness for going up to the side of my couch and using it as a scratching post, not to mention when she plays with you, your arms end up looking like roadmaps.
Not always. Our two indoor cats are rescued feral kittens. Neither of them is wild at all. One is shy and dominated by her sister. The dominant cat is a dedicated lap cat who likes to crawl under the covers to sleep beside me. They're as docile as any cat I've ever had.
