A food safety bill that has burned up precious days of the Senates lame-duck session appears headed back to the chamber because Democrats violated a constitutional provision requiring that tax provisions originate in the House.
By pre-empting the Houses tax-writing authority, Senate Democrats appear to have touched off a power struggle with members of their own party in the House. The Senate passed the bill Tuesday, sending it to the House, but House Democrats are expected to use a procedure known as blue slipping to block the bill, according to House and Senate GOP aides.
The debacle could prove to be a major embarrassment for Senate Democrats, who sought Tuesday to make the relatively unknown bill a major political issue by sending out numerous news releases trumpeting its passage.

Until they discovered the Senate appropriated the money.

Indeed. This is the first step down the road of tyranny to strip the house of the power of the purse.
It’s also the first real test in a long time of that principle, given the house/senate split.
We need to fire emails and phone calls to Republicans in DC.
They need to fillibuster where they can. take a knee and run out the clock at other times.
We voted the bums out. That is the will of the American people. They screwed us on Christmas eve of last year. Don’t let it happen again.
“We can only pray that our food freedom will be protected from Monsantos insatiable greed, it does not matter what the mechanism might be.”
Yes, the failure of this bill would be the result of divine intervention.
The FDA should be disbanded, not expanded.
I wish you were wrong. I know you are not.
Our food is fine people.
Cook it properly. use common sense. Don’t eat a half raw hamburger or steak. Veggies from the store are actully much safer than veggies canned at home because they know if someone comes down with a case of botulism, they are are going to be out of business almost overnight. And lawyers will move in with a full cavity search.
Fast Food restaurants have the safest meat for this reason as well. The scraps are being fed to public school students through the wonderful USDA.
” ... If the GOP filibusters them ... “
A Very Big “IF”. Present GOP leadership is totally in alignment with globalist and International Financial powers pushing for the enslavement of USA citizens.
GOP Leadership is busy installing RINOs into every critical leadership position in the next Congress in an attempt to mitigate Tea Party influence over the next two years, and beyond! JMHO
“Dont eat a half raw hamburger or steak.”
OK, I’ll eat it almost raw. I’ve been doing it for years, and have never even had an upset stomach.
The whole society should not be organized to cater to people with weak immune systems, or food allergies (which can be terrifying).
oh gees. you are one of those “rare” people...
I go medium well.
“Yeah, just like Health Care Reform !!”
Yep. This is pretty much what happened back then.
We used to hang traitors but it seems we make senators out of them now.
“We used to hang traitors but it seems we make senators out of them now.”
The U.S. Senate is bought and paid for by global corporations. Like Vito Corleone they only ask for a “favor” very seldom, and then they really call in their debts and use them to pass the legislation they really want.
The Swiss cope with this problem by Federal initiative and referendum. It only takes 100,000 signatures there to put something on the ballot and overturn one of these corrupt sweetheart deals.
