PPP poll: Romney voters a risk to switch to Obama if he loses nomination?

I could have gone two ways with the headline here. One was to note that Palin’s now leading the field, albeit narrowly — 21 percent to Gingrich’s 19, Romney’s 18, and Huckabee’s 16. The other was to note that those darned RINOs in Mitt’s base just might be ready to bolt, Delaware-style, if their man’s not the pick in 2012.

I went with my gut that you guys might just be in the mood for an ol’ fashioned RINO stomp.

This is why pretenders like Huck, Newt and Mitt should be pressured into endorsing Sarah now. If she could go into 2011 and 2012 with a united party behind her, she'll be able to stomp Obama.

Huck, Newt and Mitt know that they can't be elected. They are continuing to pretend to be potential candidates only as an effort to engender continuing interest in them.

Each of them needs top search his soul and accept the reality that his ego is not more important than the future of the country.

Good luck with that. I'd rather see them endorse a conservative anyway.

I think for 2012, we need to primarily focus on consolidating our 2010 mid term gains. We have the momentum now. We need to use it to take the Senate and to make further gains at the state level. We need to be focused on gerrymandering all those congressisonal districts so we can hold what we got for a good long time. If we have both houses of congress and the vast majority of state assemblies, we don’t need the Whitehouse. If we have to vote for the likes of Mitt Romney to take the Whitehouse, I’m not sure we should even bother trying to take it. That’s more compromise than I can stomach personally. I won’t be able to vote for Romney. sorry. Just my opinion.

Anyone who would vote for Obama because Romney didn't get nominated is a lost cause anyway. If they want to pick the losing side, and betray what they at least pay lip service to supporting, so be it.

Palin’s 21 percent to Gingrich’s 19, Romney’s 18, and Huckabee’s 16.

I'm not impressed with any of them.

I wish Paul Ryan would run for POTUS. He could crush BHO in any debate.

My ideal ticket (today) is Ryan/Palin

16 years would be enough time to undo BHO/Pelosism and right this country.

Paul Ryan is to the left of Mitt Romney....and Romney is a socialist.

Romney voters also would opt to go with Palin as their second choice.

At the lowest rate of any of the frontrunner's supporters.

Her's the bad news. Irrespective of who is leading of these four, NONE of these four (Palin, Newt, Romney or Huckabee) can beat Obama, although (and disturbingly) Huckabee probably comes closest.

If the GOP doesn't find a candidate that can appeal to moderates without alienating its base, it's toast and Obama strolls easily to reelection.

It's tough to beat an incumbent president without a third party candidate in the field getting 5% or more of the vote, at least it has been in the last 78 years. Why? Because the third party candidates have been able to siphon off moderates from the incumbent president that wouldn't have gone to the opposition party challenger, making the challenger more mathematically feasible.

He would, but historically, the odds are overwhelming against him. Not since Garfield has a sitting member of the House been elected to the presidency. William Jennings Bryan was the last to win a major party nomination, and he was crushed - all three times he tried it.

We tried the RINOs last time. Let's stick with conservatives from now on.

Actually, any of them — except Romney — can beat
Obama. The MSM and DNC have so much info on Romney
that we will hear nothing except his perversions.

I’ve always said that Mitt Romney is the Republican version of Bill Clinton. They will both say and do anything to get elected. Core priciples for both = 0.

No wonder Clintons mouthpiece the Snake Head likes him.

pissant you do realize if Romney is our nominee his NRO buddies will probably talk him into picking Nikki Haley for a running mate.

Naw, I disagree. Clintoon’s core principle is achieving the big “O”.

Romney’s? Tough call. I’ll have to slip on the secret glasses and have another look at the golden plates. ;-)

"Let's stick with conservatives from now on. "

Terrific. But, what I said is still true - unless the GOP picks a nominee that appeals to moderates without alienated its base, Obama wins, easily. None of those four fit that bill.

Assuming of course, there isn't a third party nominee, which does change the equation, a bit.

Sorry, I was looking at how the supporters rated favorables of the other frontrunners, Gingrich was actually behind Romney as far as their supporters making Palin their second choice.
