At a White House Correspondents Association Dinner, the DC Chapter held a sidewalk contest.
Two large photos and a sign challenging anyone to name both individuals and why they were important. The DC Chapter offered a decent prize to get peoples attention. Many tried to win.
One photo, Cindy Sheehan, the WH press corps pretty much all knew her.
The other was SFC Paul R Smith, the first CMOH recipient in Iraq.
Only Bret Baier knew who Paul Smith was.
Even a journalist who wrote a story on Paul Smith didnt know until told who and why his photo was displayed.

Good on you, Bret!
Paraphrasing a British ditty from the beginning of the last century:
“You do not have
To bribe or twist
The arm
Of the Americn journalist
Considering what he would do
Unasked
There is no reason to.”
And exactly how the media needs to be handled.
outstanding
The most handsome and outstanding examples of American youth are dying for us. It just stabs at my heart every time I see their pictures. RIP, Soldier; and thank you.
AMEN
DB,
I’d like to put up a NewsBusters post on this, but I’d first need a few more details. Hit me up at lachlan dot markay at gmail dot com if you’re available and willing to share a bit more about the event.
Thanks, and great job with all this.
