House Majority Leader-designate Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Monday that Republicans will not be seeking to completely scrap the healthcare reform law.
Cantor said there are certain elements of current law that will be included in the GOP plan, which he said will move simultaneously with a repeal measure through the House.
Provisions that Republicans will seek to retain include the barring of insurance companies from refusing coverage to patients with a pre-existing condition and allowing young people to stay on their parents' insurance plans until age 26.
Speaking to more than 100 students at a town hall event at American University in Washington. D.C., Cantor responded to a question from a young woman who suffered from a chronic health condition by telling her, "We want to keep the pre-existing condition clause."
Cantor also told the woman that under the GOP plan, she should be able stay either "on a parent's health insurance" or be offered "another, equally affordable solution.

Cantor is less than worthless. No surprise here. This prick fought Steve King’s REPEAL ONLY legislation.
Barack Obama has brought more power into DC than Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson altogether. ‘BammyCare isn’t going away. There’s a generations worth of Kst and Congressional horse trading in that bill.... K st markets what Congress has to sell.
If DC has ANY say whatsoever..the Rinocratic Oligarchy isnt going to let their golden boy go anywhere. Neither will they willingly give back ANY power.
We the People have our work cut out. 2008 was a literal drop in the bucket if we intend to have our country back. It will be a multi-election cycle effort that will require well-delineated gains each time. It will start in each of the local election precincts in each state..because the fraud by which Red states keep electing Blue candidates is rooted in the community.
BS! You can't do it unless you force everyone to have Ins at all times. If you are going to do that you might as well keep the whole freaking bill!
Any bets on the Momma-Grizzly taking a specific position on this? Or is she like Obama-care, we have to pass it(elect her) to see what's in it? (sjb made up this line, it's a good one)
I can think of no other reason than that the rehab lobby pushed it hard enough. Can you?
What would be wrong with letting people opt out of mandates for a corresponding reduction in premiums? A normal life insurance policy will exclude a pay-out if someone dies while committing a violent crime. So why does a health insurance policy require a higher premium from me to subsidize someone who stuffs an illegal substance up their nose?
What many don’t seem to understand is the whole law must be repealed. There are things in that law that in order to work are dependent on previous laws. Example is the healthcare records requirement isn’t in the healthcare law...it was in the stimulus bill.
Law upon law upon law...each law no longer is able to “stand on it’s own merits.” So big deal they disassemble the healthcare law ...the other laws will fill in what was taken away.
Until the public understands this is what the progressives have done ...we’re doomed.
True insurance is premised on risk assessment. Insurance companies must be able to exclude coverage for individuals with pre-existent disease for individual policies. As far as other pre-existent disease exclusions are concerned for groups policies, let the market decide. Most insurance companies are willing to cover pre-exiting diseases in large groups because risk and be spread across the group.
As for individuals without group coverage and with a pre-existent disease that cannot find coverage, there are other options. High risk state pools and Medicaid (for those that qualify) are reasonable options. The key is NOT to reward those individuals with high quality or cheap health insurance when many of those individuals could have purchased policies on the market before they became sick. Rewarding the “imprudent” behavior of not buying insurance when available defeats the purpose of insurance and results in the government taking a larger share of the market.
All of 0bamacare must be struck down or repealed. The mandates cannot stand because they are an affront to individual rights. Pre-existing disease exclusion prohibitions raise the costs of private insurance.
I say it is time to start over again.
I second that motion. One more in favor, and it's carried...
Seems to be that soon the GOP will own this bill and let Oblahblah off the hook.
What a shame.
We did take to the streets enmass after Obamacare was passed.
It was called the Tea Party.
But, since we are still civilized, and trained to be slaves, we only demanded changes at the ballot box.
And even then...our masters in the MSM, the DNC, and the RNC, still questioned who we were, and what we wanted. They ALL tried to smear us a racists rubes who do not know our place.
Hopefully some TRUTH will begin to seep into a Tea Party brain soon!
That is true you are covered in this situation. But there are situations where people lose coverage and cannot obtain new coverage. I just had a client who worked for a company that recently shut down. He had a medical condition that no private insurer would accept and being 59 years old no company is going to hire him. He actually works 3 jobs but nothing full time with benefits.
As I said before it is a very complicated problem.
What the government health care advocates want is for any condition to be covered, regardless of whether you had insurance or not, which would not encourage people to have insurance, but to wait until they got sick and then buy insurance.
Yes, this is a screw up.

Have a great afternoon!
If this report is true then it mean the HCR bill is a fait accompli. Republicans can pack it in and go home now...they;ve failed again.
Its a shame but our grandchildren aren’t going to be able to experience the greatness of America...theirs will be a life of slavery.
The only chance of a consensus is for repeal. As soon as they decide to keep some of the bill, they’ll get bogged down on what and why and nothing will happen, leaving the status quo. They need to have a straight up or down vote, then at least we’ll see their colors.
Beware, Cantor is a big time RINO, and is your enemy if you support Conservative values and principles. He is a Graham in the making. IMHO
Death to all RINOs (politically speaking, of course)!
There was. His name is Floyd Baine. He ran on the Independent ticket and he is very, very conservative. I think he will try to unseat Cantor again next time.
I don't necessarily disagree with that, but I'd rather see the GOP repeal Obamacare, and put forth any "reasonable" provisions into their own HC reform bill. There's just too much baggage with the current bill that no one knows about.
Argh! That's it. I'm done.
What's the point of getting Repubs elected if they're just going to do the same thing the Dems would have done in their place?
We don't need a third party; we need a SECOND party.
“Its actually a good strategy to simultaneously work to reform and repeal Obamacare.”
Disagree. It is important with regard to this health care Obamanation that principle drive the politics. The principle here is to constitutional democracy. Therefore any action highlight the real “change” that occured on November 2, away from socialism and back towards our founding documents and ideas. To do this, the new Congress must send an absolutely resounding message of rejection of ObamaCare, even if it means throwing the few good ideas out with all the crap.
As others have said, anything less sends the message that you are compromising and cooperating with an evil doctrine and its practitioners. To carry forward a true conservative revolution, it must be clear to every American that the new kids in town don’t want to be associated in any way with what happened under the previous legislature. Then, they can roll forward on other initiatives toward conservatism with strong public backing from Tea Partiers and like-minded folks.
If they show any compromise, they will engender a loss of confidence and they will become targets for the next election cycle, while weakening their own true base.
On the subject of healthcare reform, let them start with a clean, simple bill that supports market driven reforms, such as interstate insurance, more health savings account initiatives and tort reform. Once these measures take root and bend the cost curve downwards, the Republicans can present their own ideas to deal with pre-existing conditions and 26 year old children.
They’d better not!
