TSA's nude scans would miss taped-on bombs

A new peer-reviewed scientific study says the backscatter full-body imaging X-ray machines being used by the federal Transportation Security Administration could be fooled by terrorists who simply would mold explosives to conform to their bodies.

WND obtained an advance copy of the report, titled "An evaluation of airport X-ray backscatter units based on image characteristics," in which University of California scientists Leon Kaufman and Joseph Carlson demonstrated that packages of explosives contoured to the body or worn along the sides likely would not be detected by TSA X-ray units built to "see" hard edges and anatomical features, and used primarily to image the front and back of the body.

The article comes from Dr. David Brenner of Columbia's Center for Radiological Research, whose research includes estimating the risks of low dose X-ray exposures.

It’s not about finding terrorists. It’s about submission to authority and collective punishment.

And also somebody is making a lot of money from this.

It was reported that the scans would fail to detect breast and other implants.

I'm old enough to remember those huge, wooden cabinets in shoe stores in the 50's where you stuck in your foot and got an X-Ray of your foot inside your new shoes - for fitting purposes you know.

Well, it didn't take them long to figure out (even in the 50's) that radiation was leaking all over the place.

I haven't read it anywhere, but it seems logical to me that the radiation to X-ray a foot was not anymore powerful than the whole body scanners at the airports today.

So why isn't the same Government that banned the foot x-ray machines, also banned the body scanners?

Will we all start having to wear radiation badges to signal an overdose when whe fly?

It's just another example of how the government does whatever the hell it wants - screw the people - but when the people want to do something they can find a way to ban it.

Any individual that believes that the TSA scans, pat downs,x-rays and what ever else methods that they employ on the sheep is for security is a fool.

They are for one purpose and one purpose only: To condition the serfs to obey orders, no matter how humiliating, without question.

Except where it suits their purposes to follow it,the Government has openly and blatently abandonded governing according to the dictates of the Constitution.

Newer X-ray devices have much more sensitive sensors, so require much lower radiation to function.

It is claimed the amount of radiation a person receives from this device is roughly equivalent to that received in 2 minutes at 35,000 feet during the flight. IOW, not significant.

It’s true. Adam Savage from Mythbusters accidentally smuggled huge (20”?) blades through security, just because the container was long and slender.
