Voters in the Nov. 2 election chose the business-friendly Republican Paul LePage for governor and put both the House of Representatives and the Senate under GOP control for the first time since the 1973-74 session. Republicans now control the House 78-72 and the Senate 20-14, with one independent serving in each chamber.
Im hoping they create more jobs and make it more friendly for small business. Mainers like to work, said Jason Pratt of Augusta, who works two jobs as a cook. Pratt said he doesnt care which party gets the credit, as long as they do the job they promised.
Gov.-elect LePage is to take his oath on Jan. 5. While his transition team organizes a new administration behind the scenes, the new 125th Legislature kicks into gear in the State House right off.

take no prisoners!
Another RINOland kingdom has a new legislature. Big Whoop.
They do it early huh in Maine huh? Good. Less time for lame duck BS. No reason to wait till January.

Thanks Impy.
Probably a remnant of the days in which ME held its general elections in September (two months earlier than the rest of the nation due to its earlier harvest); the September general election is the origin of the phrase “as Maine goes, so goes the nation.”

Let’s wait and see what they do. I worked on a couple of campaigns. We have a lot of new small business owners in the legislature intead of lawywers, nonprofit managers, and so forth. The new governor is a member of the Tea Party and he has at least some FR types around him.
There are lots of conservatives in Maine just like Virginia.
Right, we’ll see. I expect no great changes. I hope you moose chasers prove me wrong. I doubt it.
It is now cool to say you’re a Republican. That was certainly not the case a couple of years ago.
Exactly - no lame duck BS...the way it should be!
Kinda odd that the Governor-elect has to wait till January. Reminiscent of the layoff between a new Congress and President. I think he’s had plenty of time to transition.
I kinda like the UK style, the new guys take over at once (unless Parliament is hung like this most recent time), since the rats can’t be trusted to exit quietly.
A short lame-duck period is better—as long as the election results are unambiguous. With recounts and such, having a few extra weeks before the winners take office is actually a good thing. And we can’t just say that the lame-duck legislature shouldn’t be allowed to legislate, since we need to keep that option open in case of an emergency.
LePage is a real heavy-duty conservative from all I’ve read and heard. My friends in Maine were very, very happy with what he showed them during the campaign.
Next up for Maine: Wash away YellowSnowe in 2012, then Collins in 2014.
Speaking of Rats exiting:
