When the producer asked her why she wasn’t happy with the song, she replied, “That’s not the way Willie sings it.” She was told, “Don’t worry about how Willie does it, make it your song, sing it your way. She did and that is the result.
When Willie heard it, he commented that he never realized how good the song was until Patsy sang it.
She did own it. The man can write and interpret others works. Don’t like his politics and I’m not a huge fan, but I can admire his body of work. Over 2500 hundred songs written by or in part my him. Incredible.
