Willie Nelson was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas on Friday for possession of six ounces of pot. As a result, the country music legend faces as many as two years behind bars.
If the Texas prosecutors do not reduce the charges, and the marijuana's weight is indeed six ounces, then he is dealing with felony and a potential minimum of 180 days in a county jail and a maximum of two years, with a $10,000 fine, explained former California-based prosecutor, Robin Sax.
**SNIP**
Nelson, 77, was arrested with one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana and three ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms on his tour bus in 2006, and nine years before that, police in Waco, Texas spotted a joint in his cars ash tray, prompting another arrest.
Texas is more stringent than California so he could face time. One of the issues that the court and prosecutors will look at is his prior record and given the fact that he has several arrests, even recent ones, for pot related crimes," Sax said. "I would not be surprised if Texas decided to stick it to him."

Willie don’t smoke dope to get high
Willie smokes dope to get normal
Or Hello, Walls...
Why punish society?
A lot of folks might think that what you're saying there is crazy, but Willie Nelson is a cultural icon with a huge national following.
If Governor Perry allows his state machinery to send Willie Nelson to his state prison for smoking dope, there are many, many people who will know and remember nothing else about Governor Perry than that he persecuted Willie. For whatever reason, millions of people really love Willie Nelson and feel a powerful, personal connection to him.
They do not and will not see him as a danger to society.
Merle Hagard wrote and sang Mama Tried.
Yup! (but he may be thinking about that now)
Societies of every age have their talented eccentrics that have been allowed certain latitudes concerning societal mores. Willie Nelson falls under this category. I hope they give the old boy his dope back and send him along the road.
Haven’t we got anything better to do than to worry if Willie Nelson is smoking pot?
Louis Armstrong?
“The world is a better place because Willie Nelson is in it.”
I don’t know about that. but I sure liked his “Angels Flying to Close to the Ground.” Great Song.
Seriously, the guy sings through his nose.

Rehab - no no no
;o)
I remember that very well. Whether or not pot should be legal, it is currently illegal and thus, Willie Nelson is a law-breaker and should face the same penalties someone who is not a celebrity would face. Put him in jail.
You mean he should face the same Injustice as a non-celeb.
"The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."
--Ayn Rand
Willy claimed the pot. End of story.
