Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos on Monday offered a sympathetic take on the decision of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to release potentially damaging U.S. security documents. The ABC host wondered if it was "important information for the public to have." Talking to Congressman Peter Hoekstra, Stephanopoulos read a quote to the Republican, repeating the words of Assange: "If citizens in a democracy want their governments to reflect their wishes, they should ask to see what's going on behind the scenes." Stephanopoulos then emphasized, "He says he's performing a public service."

I noticed nothing yet about Bush and Iraq. Oh nothing on 0bidobiedude either. Oh George is a shill for the WH! I bet if it had realesed any bad info on 0bidobiedude he would be outraged!
There are legions of people that scream for transparency and celebrate the document dump.
These people extol the virtues of diplomacy but yet they fail to realize because of the document dump, a) more controls are being placed on official/classified correspondence (making things even less transparent), and b) allies and enemies alike will now be less inclined to discuss or engages in diplomatic initiatives, honestly fearing (and rightly so) disclosure.
This document dump will achieve the exact opposite of that the defenders of this reckless act wish.
If the leaks reveal more info on Clinton’s transfer of ballistic missile technology to China, Ron Brown’s murder, Vince Foster’s murder and other crimes committed by Hill and Bill then I might agree with Stephy.
Didn’t think I’d find much to agree with Stephi on this, but you’re thoughts at least make it possible. ;^)
I wonder how fair Stephi would think the release was then?
