Obama Sending Attorney General to Zurich to Lobby for World Cup 2022 in U.S. (Really)
CBS News via Twitter ^ | Monday, November 29, 2010 | Mark Knoller

Attorney General Holder heads to Zurich, Switzerland tomorrow to lobby to bring the World Cup to the U.S. in 2022.

Justice Dept. says Holder is making the trip to Zurich at the request of Pres. Obama to show US commitment to host World Cup in 2022.

Pres. Obama lost U.S. effort in '09 to host 2016 Summer Olympics. WH hopes Holder's mission to Zurich doesn't end up a Swiss miss.

Perhaps we'll find out more about the World Cup mission from Holder's cables in the next WikiLeaks document disclosures.

This administration is turning more and more into a joke. The attorney general is now our globe trotting chief World Cup lobbyist?

They’re having another world Cup in 2022? Didn’t we just finish the last one? I was hoping they were just once a century.

The only explanation I can think of is that this is a cover for Holder's true reason for going to Switzerland.

It does sound like a joke. Why would the Attorney General be flying overseas to lobby for sporting events. Eric Holder has a hard time accomplishing anything, but now he’s taking time away from his responsibilities to go outside of his job description. It’s clear that after declaring the U.S. public a “nation of cowards” that he has absolutely no diplomatic skills so this news is just bizarre. I imagine that he will only succeed in alienating foreign leaders.

F*** FIFA!

If they're too stupid to have returned the tournament to the US since the great success in 1994, let they keep it. Let them force fans to travel to third world countries with inadequate infrastructure and accommodations. Germany, Italy, France? Okay. South Africa? Yeah. Really easy to get to, and nice. Brazil? They're already trying to round up the dissident elements for 2014; and none of the major players will have an advantage in Brazil. Nah.

I’m a huge football (soccer) fan and would love to see the World Cup come back here, but this is absolutely and utterly ridiculous.

From the AP:

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will join former President Bill Clinton and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman on Wednesday at the final presentation to FIFA's executive committee of the U.S. bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

Holder also will meet with executive committee members, who will vote the following day.

Is it avalanche time in Switzerland? Perhaps this is one way Obie will try to get rid of Holder.

....taking a bundle of money to a secret Swiss bank account? Before ending up in Fort Marcy Park, Ex 42's lawyer made a couple of quick trips over there.
