Chavez vows to expedite socialist initiative

CARACAS, Venezuela -- President Hugo Chavez is vowing to accelerate his drive to turn Venezuela into a socialist state and urging his supporters to become "true revolutionaries" as they prepare for crucial political battles ahead.

"Radicalize the revolution!" Chavez trumpeted in a newspaper column published on Sunday, calling on his allies to "create truly revolutionary groups; the vanguard of the people, a party and movement that guarantees the construction of socialism."

The president's party is gearing up for next weekend's local elections of two state governors and eleven mayors, including the head of Maracaibo, Venezuela's second-largest city. Pro-Chavez candidates hope to win most of the posts following a disappointing showing in September congressional elections.

Chavez sees the vote as an important precursor to the 2012 presidential vote.

Chavez wrote that his re-election is indispensable "to secure the continuity of the revolutionary process."

Chavez remains the country's most popular politician, even if his support has flagged recently.

The opposition has promised to hold primaries to pick a contender capable of beating Chavez, capitalizing on the president's failure to resolve domestic problems ranging from rampant crime to double-digit inflation.

"An opposition victory in Maracaibo could weaken Chavez," especially at time when he's seeking to boost his popularity while confronting a wave of domestic woes, pollster Luis Vicente Leon of the Caracas-based firm Datanalisis said in a telephone interview.

An opposition loss "would be an important victory for Chavez," said Leon, noting that Maracaibo has traditionally been a bastion for foes of Chavez.

No wonder Hussein let it slip that he wanted to take a side trip to Venezuela.

Es cierto.

They know that his relationship with the unions keeps the trade agreement from being signed.

While China enjoys Most Favored Nation status.

That’s too bad...a dollar used to go a long way there.

I’ve considered retiring to the Eje Cafetero because the climate is so nice and the country is safer than it used to be. But the economic situation and monetary policy are making things difficult.

This business of Chavez building a power base in Maracaibo must be worrisome to Colombians. Very close to the border.

Have a seond home in Medellin. Excellant climate, clean, safe and services are outstanding. Short 3 hr flight from Miami. Also have two places in Manizales but the climate isnt near as nice as Medellin.

The trend is for Colombians to buy second homes here(floriduh) because its so cheap.

Try a house swap to test the area if possible.
I have my residency and travel between Miamia and Medellin often.

The Columbian military has experience as the Venezuelan does not. History has taught us the model for Chavez’s dreams end rather poorly for him when the alarm bell goes off.

Thanks for the advice.

Since I prefer smaller cities, I’m thinking about Armenia or Pereira.

I have some health problems to deal with first. Then we’ll see.

Washington, D.C. -- President barak Obama is vowing to accelerate his drive to turn America into a socialist state and urging his supporters to become "true revolutionaries" as they prepare for crucial political battles ahead.

"Radicalize the revolution!" Obama trumpeted in a NY Times column published on Sunday, calling on his allies to "create truly revolutionary groups; the vanguard of the people, a party and movement that guarantees the construction of socialism."

Obama has become the country's most hated politician, even as his support from the main stream media has increased.

The Tea Party has promised to pick a contender capable of beating Obama, capitalizing on the president's failure to resolve any problems at all.

“They know that his relationship with the unions keeps the trade agreement from being signed.”

Exactly! And what is so stupid about all of this is that his refusal to do so hurts us economically. Oh wait....could that be his plan?

Should read: “Chavez vows to expedite self-inflicted destruction of Venezuela”.

Hugo’s desires for his country pretty much reflect Obozo’s aspirations for the USA: economic and societal destruction.

Very nice place. The folks are paisa-—very friendly and industrious-—and the climate is springlike most of the time.

It did have a serious earthquake some years ago but the city was rebuilt and in good shape.

The National Coffee Recreational Park is in that area. Panaca not far away.
