Mt Anak Krakatau Sees Rising Activities

VIVAnews - Mt Anak Krakatau, a volcano located on the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java, Indonesia, has seen escalating expulsion of toxic gas. The volcanic activities were triggered by 5.5 magnitude tremor hitting southwest of Krui, Lampung, earlier in November. In addition, the sea temperature around the volcano has been rising as well.

According to Andi Arief, presidential advisor on Disaster Issues, revealed through a short message today, Nov 29, that the plumes of smoke sent off by the Anak Krakatau reached the height of between 200 and 800 meters into the air.

The data gathered was an accumulation of intense monitoring as of Sunday, Nov 28, at between 6.51 am and 4.35 pm.

"Nine volcanic earthquakes, 123 shallow volcanic earthquakes, 60 eruptive earthquakes and 63 eruptive tremors have been currently recorded," he said.

However, the government has yet to raise the alert level of the volcano, maintaining its status at level two.

NASA has listed Anak Krakatau as top volcanoes worldwide in need of strong monitoring.

Based on data of Geological Disaster Management and Volcanology Center of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, 19 out of 68 active volcanoes in Indonesia are now declared under the yellow level. The following are the listed mountains:

I'm not sure if Anak Krakatau could produce a Tambora-level eruption, though. Remember, the famous 1883 eruption totally destroyed that island, and the new eruption would produce something on the scale of what happened to Merapi on Java recently.

Now, if the Lake Toba caldera on Sumatra started to act up, I'd start getting worried REAL fast. Toba is the site of the eruption between 75,000 and 71,000 years ago that came with a smidge of wiping out the human race, according to some experts.

What has this thing ever done to get people so riled up?

Last time this thing cooked off it blew the entire island down below sea level. It could be heard 3500 miles away in Perth, Western Australia and threw up a 30 meter high Tsunami. And it killed over 36,000 people in an area that was back then almost completely unpopulated, but which is now much more vulnerable. For reference the Christmas tsunami was about the same size and it killed over 230,000 people. And it didn't throw an ash cloud that screwed up the world's climate for five years.

America slowly plunging into tyranny, with an avowed enemy of freedom at her helm.

Economic collapse on a global scale.

And now a major eruption of a volcano, which is sure to cause significantly lower harvests.

Why does it feel like 1928? Only we’re Germany?

To remain carbon neutral, I suggest that all Global Warmers exhale 20% less until the volcanoes subside.

Slowly hell! We are moving into tyranny at the speed of light. Sometimes in 2011 or early 2012, look for another “crisis” like happened in 2007 and 2008. It may not be financial, though I believe it will be, but, it will be a “crisis” designed to keep obama in power and return the Progressives[Democrats] to power.

"A volcano on Krakatoa is still erupting. Perhaps most famous for the powerfully explosive eruption in 1883 that killed tens of thousands of people, ash from a violent eruption might also have temporarily altered Earth's climate as long as 1500 years ago. In 1927, eruptions caused smaller Anak Krakatau to rise from the sea, and the emerging volcanic island continues to grow at an average rate of 2 cm per day. The latest eruption of Anak Krakatau started in 2008 April and continues today. In this picture, Anak Krakatau is seen erupting from Rakata, the main island of the Krakatoai group."

"The geography of Indonesia is dominated by volcanoes that are formed due to subduction zones between the Eurasian plate and the Indo-Australian plate. Some of the volcanoes are notable for their eruptions, for instance, Krakatau for its global effects in 1883,[1] Lake Toba for its supervolcanic eruption estimated to have occurred 74,000 Before Present which was responsible for six years of volcanic winter,[2] and Mount Tambora for the most violent eruption in recorded history in 1815.[3]"

You are touching on one of my greatest fears, ie., that this country is ill prepared to survive a major natural disaster.

The gov’t is beyond broke, leadership is a cruel joke, we are seriously divided as a people, & anarchy is the rule on many streets in the country. These things put us too close to oblivion. A massive natural disaster could be our undoing.

Does anyone deny that a competent gov’t with surplus revenues, backed by a united, moral people, could far better sustain a massive natural disaster? How about a “man-caused” disaster?

I'm guessing someplace like Switzerland will be the last refuge of civilization.

"Krakatoa [center of lower image] (Indonesian: Krakatau), also known as Krakatau, is a volcanic island made of a'a lava[2] in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The name is used for the island group, the main island (also called Rakata), and the volcano as a whole. The island exploded in 1883, killing approximately 40,000 people, although some estimates put the death toll much higher. The explosion is still considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard nearly 3,000 miles from its point of origin. The shock wave from the explosion was recorded on barographs around the globe."

in prehistory there was Toba, now lake toba, a huge caldera which is missing on this map.

they say that the human race was brought down to 4 digits numbers due to its eruption around 73,000 BP.
