WASHINGTON--President Obama and his family are spending Thanksgiving at the White House with a traditional dinner; the 2010 menu features six kinds of pies--the same as the Obama 2009 Thanksgiving menu.
Below, the Obama 2010 Thanksgiving menu:
Turkey
Ham
Cornbread Stuffing
Oyster Stuffing
Greens
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Macaroni and Cheese
Dinner Rolls
Dessert:
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Banana Cream Pie
Cherry Pie
Huckleberry Pie
Just trying to pretend they have southern roots.
I don't like that chit.
That probably were for the picky eater girls.
We had turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, deviled eggs, stuffing, cranberry sauce, home made bread, with REAL butter. Sweet Potato Pie, no bake cheese cake with cherry pie topping (a request from son). Will repeat this dinner tomorrow as left overs.
Doesn’t this menu go against what Wookie says the rest of us should eat? I thought they would have tofurkey and vegetables grown in night soil.

Good grief — I thought the White House, through Michelle, was advocating the salad oasis and eating more green things and eating healthy!!
So having two different stuffings is not starch enough, we have to have sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes in the same meal. Then there’s that green bean casserole with its cholesterol laden sauce. Not to mention the crunchy onion chips that are probably loaded with cholesterol too, having been deep fried.
Not to mention the macaroni and cheese.
But six pies? I sure hope no self-respecting person ate slices of six pies.
I’m diabetic and my doctor says not to eat bread and potatoes in the same meal.
The White House is sure not setting a good example for healthy eating, no matter which way you slice it. No wonder nobody is taking her advice on healthy eating.
Now that’s funny!
I grew up in Baton Rouge, lived in the South most of my life, and no one I know, NO ONE EVER had macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving. (Or mashed potatoes, ugh.) We did have rice dressing, though.
VA, GA and NC here and macaroni and cheese was on tables in some of the homes where I have eaten, no rice dressing though.
We went to the country club today for our lunch. While we were eating the cook came out to see how we were enjoying the meal. She had fed 88 people there and was going home to feed 30 family and friends. She said her turkey and ham were already cooked but she still had to do sweet potato casserole, butter beans and macaroni and cheese.
Well, anyone needing to send some leftovers this way...
I’ll gladly take them. We had maple bacon and eggs for breakfast with toast.
The rest of the day I can’t get my appetite up or desire company...
I had to unexpectedly put my cat to sleep yesterday...and I can’t bring myself to make turkey today. He would normally have been at my feet begging for it, then guarding the oven, and then having his feast of turkey & gravy too.
Call me a crazy cat person, but he was supposed to be here today and my heart is breaking.
I am so sorry my FRiend. My prayers for peace in your heart on this sad day.
BO and family pass out food to the (well-dressed) needy.

With the multi-level starches plus six pies, it's as if some foreigner looked up "Traditional Thanksgiving foods" and just went with the entire list.
Why no cranberry sauce? I think that's the dead giveaway that your theory is correct. Normally a sauce or relish would just be another condiment, not necessarily included on a menu. But for Thanksgiving, real Americans would include it on the menu. You'd think this would be the case in the White Hut, because the chef would include his own creative variation, e.g. cranberry orange relish w/ fresh ginger, or some such.
Oh, I’m so sorry, EBH.
Prayers on the way for you.
The caption for the first photo is: “Guess what, little girl? I’m having 6 pies today!”
You’re not crazy.
Lost my calico last spring. Miss her a lot.
Best helper in the yard and garden I ever had.
I was wondering why the chef didn’t list some spectacular creations based on traditional favorites, like you suggest for the cranberry orange relish. This is such a plain-Jane, ho-hum menu with no inspiration. Makes you feel like they are dining at TGI Friday’s for Thanksgiving. Maybe they publicized the plain menu to make it seem like they are among us. They probably left the arugula salad off the public menu on purpose.
A funny memory for all!
Personally, I think that the White House menu for Thanksgiving looks pretty good this year.
Like it does every year.
I’ve heard mac and cheese is very popular both in Southern communities and it’s traditional for a lot of black familys.
I saw on there that they are having something called Huckleberry Pie, which I’ve never heard of.
I give Michelle a pass today. I don’t think she’s being a hypocrite about the food nazi thing by having six pies, I think she’s just having Thanksgiving with her family.
I hope that EVERYONE has a wonderful, filling, safe, and happy holiday.
By the way, the person who posted the Bush pic - I remember that. I really got the feeling that his being there was not a PR stunt, but the act of a truly exceptional leader. I miss that man.
