Despite injuries, Jennifer Grey is 'Dancing' champ

In the end, dancing skill triumphed over get-out-the-vote efforts on "Dancing With the Stars."

Jennifer Grey, who consistently topped the judges' leaderboard throughout the season, took the "Dancing" title Tuesday, outscoring fellow finalists Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin, who was buoyed for weeks by passionate voters and online efforts to support the single mom.

Massey finished second. Palin was third.

Grey, who overcame painful neck, back and knee injuries to earn three perfect scores in the run-up to Tuesday's finale, said her mind went blank in the moments before she was named the winner.

"I was in a surrender moment of whatever happens will be great," the 50-year-old actress said after the show, an ice pack tucked into the back of her fringe-covered costume as she spoke with reporters. "The absolute destination for me was the journey. The journey was the gift."

Still, Grey was happy to have the mirrorball trophy: She turned her professional partner, Derek Hough, into the show's first three-time winner, and gave a nod to her breakthrough film role in "Dirty Dancing."

The couple performed a waltz Tuesday that recalled the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze.

"It's a great gift to be part of a show that gives people so much joy," Grey said. "And that's really what I think dancing does."

The actress plans to keep the trophy in her daughter's room, adding, "She earned it."

Grey's husband, actor Clark Gregg, and their daughter were regulars in the ballroom each week throughout Grey's run on the show.

Grey was a consistent high-scorer who earned a string of perfect 10s for several recent dances. Her victory didn't surprise her fellow finalists.

I am surprised she didn’t claim she broke her back, but will be dancing tonight anyway thanks to DR. (fill in the black as she gets a kickback on referrals). Jennifer is full of it. The acting wasn’t that fantastic. Kyle is much more authentic in his acting and entertainment ability to connect with people and the audience. Bristol was radiant tonight. Blessing to Kyle, Lacey, Bristol, Mark, and Jennifer’s partner.

What I want to know is how Jennifer daughter earned Jennifer’s trophy. Seems to me if anyone (not Jennifer) earned Jennifer’s trophy it was her husband having to watch her be cat in heat with the public and with Derek and also for putting up with her drama en masse and on and off flip switch for tears at a moment’s notice. Blah.

No doubt Greys dancing was certainly very good. She did shine...but then one who has danced professionaly would. Interesting she interviewed on “Ellen” who mentioned her being a dancer, of which she denied outside of dancing in front of her mirror.... Yet her dance partner stated when they first met to practice and she began to jive it up solo that he wanted to “tap into her love for dancing.” Generally speaking one who has a love for dancing...dances. Too many holes in her stories...At any rate she did win...

....yet no denying viewership numbers were there because of Bristol. She won the popularity award no doubt. For a shy youg lady without dancing experience she came far.

FYI, Jennifer Grey, who is 50, has chronic neck problems due to a car accident with Matthew Broderick that happened in Northern Ireland in 1987 and a compressed spinal cord which led to a titanium plate put in her neck before DWTS.

I thought that little girl was her granddaughter. The woman sure is a whiner. I couldn't stand listening to her.

may her cat in heat role can be played on a rewrite for Cat on Hot Tin Roof. Oh but then we’d have to listen to her whine as she sluts it up on the rood about how she could fall off and break her neck (whimper, crying, slutty rubbing against men.)

She milked the injury claims every episode. She also milked the death of Patrick Swayze. Anything to win, I guess.

FYI, she also had cancer, which was found during her physical exam for the show.

If the injuries were as bad as she said, she couldn’t have danced like she did. Period.

For someone who said she had a ruptured disc which almost kept her from dancing in the final show, she sure could hoist that mirror ball, be lifted up, on people’s shoulders, and still manage to stay awake for Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Her no visible tears crying reminded me of Casey Anthony.

I want the name of the Dr who fixed her Ruptured disc overnight. If she truly had a ruptured disc from the night before she was really stupid, she could of ended up paralyzed. I just wish either Bristol or Kyle would of won it, they aren’t dancers, she was one to begin with.
