There's such a thing as a "proportional response," and unless it is exacted, expect more unprovoked abuse from NK.

They probably shouldn't tolerate any, but you just know they would require the help of the United States military if they want to respond with force. Do they have enough might to handle it on their own? What other countries would assist in a fight against North Korea (and ultimately, China)?
I don’t see the motive for the Norks to start something big, or the value to them. Unless they are re-supplied and reinforced from China, they’re going to run out of people, food, or ammo fairly quickly.
Does China want to help them out like that?
Seems to me they’re just barking to get the Obama white house to cave in on something.
Ask the Israelis. If this follows suit, soon the rest of the world will issue a stern warning to South Korea regarding unnecessary provocations.

Unless the RoK wants to get used to watching the Norks kill their people for political “posturing” purposes, they have one course of action: A massive coordinated de-fanging and decapitation attack. By de-fanging, I mean take out as many of the Nork’s artillery batteries and nuke facilities as possible. We all know what I mean by decapitating.
Would have to be by surprise, completely coordinated, and fast so it could be done before the Chicoms responded. Then hunker down.
Japan should be consulted first, but they have made it clear that a military response is in order.
Obama should NOT be told. The Won would betray them, probably under cover of “preventing escalation,” but we all know that wouldn’t be his real reason.
New war? It would be a resumption of combat operations of an existing war.
