Deliberate or Accidental, a New Korean War Would be Devastating
The soaring modern glass towers of downtown Seoul are magnificent -- and to a North Korean artillery officer squinting through his sights from just 32 miles away, a delicious set of targets. The glistening South Korean capital is a city of glass, almost literally in the shadow of some 500 long-range heavy artillery guns from which North Korea can fire half a million artillery shells an hour, for several hours.
A war on the Korean peninsula could explode almost without warning, senior U.S. military officers say. North Korea's immediate, if suicidal, intent in such a conflict: to demolish Seoul in a blizzard of glass shards and cause tens of thousands of casualties, before U.S. and South Korea forces could react.
That is why millions of people living in Seoul regularly practice scrambling into bomb shelters in subway stations -- and why any disruption in "normal'' relations with the reclusive and unpredictable regime to the north quickly gets the world's attention: a surprise attack from the North, whether deliberate or a miscalculation, would be bloody and costly, and likely would trigger all-out war.
Within hours of North Korea's apparently unprovoked artillery attack on South Korean territory and the South's retaliatory artillery barrage, U.S. officials, diplomats and policy analysts were assuring each other that this was only a "provocation'' by the North. The Obama administration took a rhetorical firm but low-key line on Tuesday, with Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell saying that the North Korean attack was "not, frankly, out of pattern for the North lately."

Yep.The die was cast decades ago that the US was NOT committed to "winning" ANY war thereafter, but only maintaining stalemates. A State Dept. moled with Commies made sure of IT, and bear responsibility for the situation we have today - including 0bama, the socialist media and Academe.
Though the US has held every measure of clout and influence available from the 1950s until 2000, the US Ruling Elites NEVER made the issue of NK affect China's "Most Favored Nation" status.
This is all part of the end result of FDR Dem-Commies marrying the Rockefeller GOP Globalists of the NWO. That is one Ugly %$#@! Chicken come home to roost.
He looks like such an Urkel in that photo.
Would it be racist if he did?
Amateurs talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics. North Korea can theoretically lob a half million shells an hour at South Korea, for several hours, but we hear stories that many of their citizens eat grass because they're so short on food. Their resupply problems, absent the Chinese, are insurmountable.
“As having been busy little beavers producing Hyundai cars, as well as owner of Hyundai Steel - the world’s 2nd largest steel producer in the world - I’d hope South Korea took sufficient measures and “might” to knock NK on their *ss all by themselves.
I’m tired of the US military and taxpayer fighting and financing the world’s battles. If it were up to me, the 35,000 or so American troops standing as sentries for SK would have pulled out decades ago.”
exactly right!!
If you ever asked my Dad what he thought about the norks or chicoms' he'd say "Fry em!".
Obama should NOT be told. The Won would betray them, probably under cover of preventing escalation, but we all know that wouldnt be his real reason.
Understandably, the Marxist-in-Chief is THE last person to consult.
... Korea :)

obviously.
Sorry, IMHO, not proportional. The Nork leadership could not care less about their troops killed in a proportional response. They’ll set in their dachas, play victim, and plan their next attack.
Disproportional. Massively. Nothing else will cut this short before WWIII breaks out.
I believe the same applies to the Israeli situation. Same enemy, different face. Proportional responses don’t work with that enemy.
Will there be blood? Yup. Lots. The longer the world waits, though, the more blood there will be.
US Allies should by now know to act unilaterally as long as The Punk Won is CiC.
I don’t think there will be a fight ...rather there will be an agreement made that China take over N.Korea and N.Korea will agree...so will S.Korea...once this thing plays out.
All Jews, Christians, and capitalists must withstand any abuse by Muslims, communists, and parasites, and shrug it off as just punishment for not being Muslims, communists, or parasites.
I apologize - I should have clarifies that as the "official" response. Disproportional. Massively. Nothing else will cut this short before WWIII breaks out. I believe the same applies to the Israeli situation. Same enemy, different face. Proportional responses dont work with that enemy.
Here ya. That should be SK's un-consulted unilateral response. Make it too late for the Mrs. Klintoon or the Punk Won to respond in time.
North Korea has been under Chinese control since its creation.
“I don?t see the motive for the Norks to start something big, or the value to them.”
You’re thinking rationally. The Nork leadership isn’t rational. They believe that they are invincible. They are buying into their own propaganda, maybe because anyone who disagrees is shot...
Yeah...My spry 80+ year old father can re-up in the US Navy aboard the new USS Owen and pick up in that "non-war" where they left off - NO WHERE ;-)
I think you are off tangent on the rationality part. The North Korean regime has survived this long because it is rational. It has perfected the art of brinkmanship by ratcheting tensions and then stepping back after gaining concessions. If they truly thought they were invincible, they would have attempted an invasion long ago.
That just isn't going to happen. China will step into this long before that becomes even a possibility. The news now fills up with all the meetings each and every nation is doing now. These talks will either produce the same sanctions etc...and or there will be an agreement that China takes over the Governance of N.Korea...and they will agree. Just a matter of time.....
Now that we are broke and battling the internal takeover of our own government by Communists and Ruling Elite Globalists, who's left to help (or finance) us?
