Bruce Springsteen: 'The boss' rails against 'very ugly' political climate surrounding Barack Obama

The American political climate for achieving change is “very, very ugly,” according to Bruce Springsteen, as he launched a staunch defence of Barack Obama.

"There's a widespread political consciousness that's perhaps deeper in Europe than it is in the States,” he told the Sunday Times magazine.

“The climate [in America] is very, very ugly for getting things done. The moderate reforms President Obama fought to make are called Marxist, socialist.

“I mean, the most extreme language is put into play to describe the most modest reforms that would move the economy back towards serving a majority of its citizens.”

The musician, often referred to as "The Boss", added: “You have a guy [Mr Obama] who comes in, he gets to be president for four years. Maybe eight.

“But you have the financial institutions, you have the military, the corporations. They're in play constantly and, in truth, they're shaping the economy and shaping the direction the US is moving in.

“Those forces are huge. The money and lobbyists are pouring in to do everything they can [to preserve the status quo]. It's a very tough time, a very hard time here in the States."

In his interview, Springsteen admitted that his decision to support Mr Obama had alienated some of his fans.

He once criticised Ronald Reagan, the late American President, for using his name to rally Republican voters in the 1980s.

"A moment comes when you cash in whatever credibility a guy can have who plays and sings rock songs for a living and you put your chips where you think they might do some good,” he said.

Because when those politically sophisticated - "deep" - Europeans set their minds to "getting things done," it never turns ugly, right Bruce? ...Right?

How smart could he be? Does he realize that if all of Zeroes plans go through, his assets will be seized.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I'll start listening to political opinions from celebrities at about the same time I start getting car repair advice from my hairdresser.

Come to think of it, my hair dresser is more likely to know something about cars than most celebrities do about politics and real life.

I distinctly recall about a year or 2 ago my roommate asking if I wanted to go to some Springsteen show at the Meadowlands. I looked up from watching Beck or Hannity and said, "Nah".

"Oh, that's right, you don't like large crowds at big venues, right?", he asked.

I replied, "No. I just don't like Communists".

P*SS on the Boss who p*ssed on the flag.

Europeans "cheered" when America made a leap into socialized medicine. THEY know what it is.

You ain't the boss of me, Brucie.

As if the million dollar man will EVER have to wait at the DMV-Federal medical clinic to make an appointment to see a doctor in 6 weeks.

All those “cool” looks he’d try to give when the MTV cam would do a close-up or that phony pulling the girl out of the front row to dance with her on stage.

That actress?

I wonder what ever became of her.

The politburo is a protected class.

Ted Kennedy railed against ending the inheritance tax.

How much of his own estate was swallowed up by taxes in the end?

Ted knows how to bury the bodies.

Bruce Springsteen owes his entire career to Dylan, since his whole angle is to be a less complicated, more consciously working-class Dylan: his entire aesthetic embodies the first phase of Dylan's electric period.

Came a point in the 1970s where they had Bruuuuce wear a leather jacket and tried calling him punk (and they also tried calling Tom Petty "new wave").

Bruce wrote "Hungry Heart" for the Ramones (in the vein of the 60s girl group sound that inspired them) but he stole it back and never did give them a song.

I guess it's all about aping the style of the day.

He "made his name" with Castro-speech length concert radio broadcasts. 3 hours of radio time repeatedly dedicated to Bruuuuce. And who says payola doesn't work when it comes to making someone famous?

Many of those radio broadcasts were subsequently sold as bootleg LPs.

I guess the solution is to give the president more power...until the next Republican is elected, then that power must be reined in.
