N. Korea fires artillery towards S. Korean island, official says

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Tuesday fired several rounds of artillery towards South Korean waters and an island near the tense west sea border, the South's military said.

The North's artillery shells fell at 2:34 p.m. in the South's waters off the island of Yeonpyeong, some of them landing directly on the island, said Col. Lee Bung-woo, spokesman at the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff. The South's military responded with its artillery firing.

Is this the biggest cross border event since the Armistice in 1953?

I just think because it involves civilians and the footage is so compelling, s. Korea will have no choice but to respond.

There was some doubt initially about what actually sunk that ship. No doubt when you shell a civilian island in broad daylight.

Now N. Korea is pulling out artillery tubes near Baekryong Island in addition to the one near Yonpyong Island. They reportedly show signs of preparation for shelling. It is not clear at this point if it is merely a bluff or not. However, more shelling could come and Baekryong Island may be also under fire.

The “200” in that screen grab is in reference to the number of shells fired by North Korea.

This was the biggest incident until now;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_murder_incident

After reading this version I should add that those who were there when the tree was finally cut down told me that the sky was full of planes and the Norks knew it would be suicide to try and stop this attempt.

Eh - nothing will come from this anymore than any other incident. This is the same song and dance that has been going on for years. They just feel a little braver today because they know America isn’t going to stop them. A STRONG letter of disapproval will be written. Perhaps a letter from the U.N. - a phone call from China and Russia. Then North Korea will be given more money and incentives to back off a bit. Wash - repeat.

Update:

Some 60~70 houses are on fire. Houses are packed one next to another, making it easy for fire to spread. Full damage assessment is not possible at this point. Due to heavy smoke and sporadic NK shelling still in progress.

Just once, I wish I could see the look on Kimmy’s face if we hit back hard.

This regime won't hit that regime.  If anything, our Dear Leader would shake the hand of their Dear Leader and they'd both blame Israel for the whole mess.
