N. Korea fires artillery towards S. Korean island, official says

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Tuesday fired several rounds of artillery towards South Korean waters and an island near the tense west sea border, the South's military said.

The North's artillery shells fell at 2:34 p.m. in the South's waters off the island of Yeonpyeong, some of them landing directly on the island, said Col. Lee Bung-woo, spokesman at the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff. The South's military responded with its artillery firing.

From what I understand, NoKo has always claimed the island is their territory. If so, they can use the “we are only defending our territory” excuse.

North Korea’s 26-year-old future dictator is linked to a deadly artillery attack on South Korean territory

Doesn't sound like a Gorbachev.

I guess that de-establish the environment technique must be something they only teach in communist schools. Do not quite understand that myself.

Eyewitnesses today were that Kim Jong Eun, the junior, was with Kim Jong il on an inspection tour of two universities in the capital of Pyongyang, and this included accompanyment with uniformed high level military officials, the conclusions what that Kim Jong Eun has been “turned out” , “ordered to fall out” (doin sareta) to official duties to participate in and oversee these attacks upon Yongpyongdo Island in South Korea. Breaking/ Sankei News in Japan Them’s some big training wheels if you ask me.

“In my opinion, China will be the one’s to act against NK and essentially take over.”

China isn`t going to do squat. They did`nt care about NoKo getting nukes,,,this incident isn`t going to bother them.

It will bother them if NoKo refugees start overrunning their borders.

And I thought I was strict with my kids, but this guy puts his son right in the middle of a stalemated 50 plus year old war and in effect to be a man?

Its been done throughout the ages, something we only read about nowadays.

Question is if NK wants a military response or is expecting a backdown to negotiations-more payoffs.

Or is it all about the younger Kim making his bones?

“North Korea’s 26-year-old future dictator is linked to a deadly artillery attack on South Korean territory, which caused South Korea to return fire and scramble F-16 fighters.”

Anyone know what SoKo targeted their artillery on,,,or was it just warning fire,,,for instance close to but not on a NoKo military base.

“Have any countries condemned the N Koreans yet?”

Not that I`m aware of. I don`t even know if Obama has condemned it.

So he starts his dictatorship-in-training course with one of the worse attacks on civilians since the war. Might kinda give one and idea where this is heading.

And the Chicom North Korean experts in Beijing just shrug their shoulders and note that the kid has to shell a civilian island just so he can establish control of parts of the military.

You would think there was easier ways to do that.

Not much to cover right now over there as it is the dead of night.

I’ve got to go dig it up, but I saw another translation from Yonap of Lee’s quotes that basically said “they (ROK) don’t rule out the possibility of additional strikes”. I’m presuming they weren’t ruling out a retaliatory strike.

W.H. condemns North Korean attack

###

Excerpt:

“The United States strongly condemns this attack and calls on North Korea to halt its belligerent action and to fully abide by the terms of the Armistice Agreement.

The United States is firmly committed to the defense of our ally, the Republic of Korea, and to the maintenance of regional peace and stability,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

“We are in close and continuing contact with our Korean allies.”

The South Korean government said two marines were killed and 16 injured in the attacks, as 60 buildings on the civilian-inhabited island were set ablaze, the New York Times reported.

Edward III 1312 - 1377

1346 - Speaking of the Black Prince at Crécy:

"Also say to them, that they suffer him this day to win his spurs, for if god be pleased, I will this journey be his, and the honor thereof."

(Commonly quoted as: "Let the boy win his spurs.")
