Science the GOP can't wish away
The Washington Post ^ | Friday, November 19, 2010 | Sherwood Boehlert

Watching the raft of newly elected GOP lawmakers converge on Washington, I couldn't help thinking about an issue I hope our party will better address. I call on my fellow Republicans to open their minds to rethinking what has largely become our party's line: denying that climate change and global warming are occurring and that they are largely due to human activities.

National Journal reported last month that 19 of the 20 serious GOP Senate challengers declared that the science of climate change is either inconclusive or flat-out wrong.

denying that climate change and global warming are occurring and that they are largely due to human activities.

There isn't a shred of scientific evidence that could convince me of this.

When CO2 was at its highest, and the world temperatures as well, plant life was at its densest. If one can believe that oil comes from dinosaur remains, the world supported more life when it was warmer ... hence the oil north of the arctic circle.

Global warming is probably good for the earth, not bad. It follows cycles, not man. Ever noticed how the Anasazi Indians left the Southwestern United States many years BEFORE the industrial revolution and the clearing of the lands? Could be were just still on the natural warming trend. When I was in the first grade, we were told that we just came out of an ice age, and that we'd continue to get warmer until the cycle swings the other way. Now, once folks started making big bucks off of energy sources, people suddenly become the warming culprits. I'm not buying into that crap.

“Global warming” is just the current liberal fraud to take the people’s money.

It sure is...

It’s flat out wrong, and purposely so. That’s what communists do.

“No Sherwood its bad science that is being rejected!”

####

Right. But “science”, was only a secondary concern.

This mythological construct was much more about safe and cozy lifetime funding for sheltered, non-demanding research jobs, and further growth of government.

This WaPo commentary is merely one of a host of recent attempts to shame AGW deniers into either silence or “reinstatement” to the ranks of Correct Thinkers. A concerted campaign is underway.

“They were experts that Republicans and Democrats alike looked to for scientific insight and understanding on a host of issues. They spoke in probabilities, ranges and concepts - always careful to characterize what was certain, what was suspected and what was speculative. Today, climate scientists - careful as ever in portraying what they know vs. what they suspect - report that the body of scientific evidence supporting the consensus on climate change and its cause is as comprehensive and exhaustive as anything produced by the scientific community.”

These guys snowed the author. That’s one of the big problems with “climate science.” They avoid statistical confidence intervals around their predictions like the plague (the “model to model” standard errors used by the IPCC are not even arguably valid confidence intervals). They also refuse to engage in the kind of forward validation that other predictive modeling or forecasting sciences require to be taken seriously. When their models get it wrong, they just change the model to fit the new data. It’s easy to predict the past if you have enough processors and an agenda.

If you doubt this, check out these two climategate emails from Kevin Trenbleth (a major high-priest of global warming). This is what they say when they think noone is listening:

FROM KEVIN TRENBLETH

“Well I have my own article on where the heck is global warming? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record. . . .

“The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

In RESPONSE, Tom Wigley disagreed and Trenbleth responded:

“Hi Tom:

“How come you do not agree with a statement that says we are no where close to knowing where energy is going or whether clouds are changing to make the planet brighter. We are not close to balancing the energy budget. The fact that we can not account for what is happening in the climate system makes any consideration of geoengineering quite hopeless as we will never be able to tell if it is successful or not! It is a travesty!”

MY SUMMARY:

The Climate data must be bad because it doesn’t agree with their models. The models make bad predictions and the global warming community doesn’t know why or where the heat they suppose is there is disappearing.

IMHO, the reason their models make bad predictions is because of the lack of statistical rigor in assigning confidence intervals and proper validation techniques. It IS a travesty.

I’m aware of that. Climate change/Global warming is a sham made up by those attempting to form global governence. Cap and trade, regardless of what the politicians who support it say, is a global tax and a forfeiture of our sovereignty based on a lie.

The entire text of the Notes on Virginia has much insight regarding what happens when the government lies and people take it at face value.

If it was true, people would not lie about it and fix the numbers to try and prove it.

Who on earth is Sherwood Boehlert? I’m not kidding, I never heard of this guy. Is this the best the Washington Post can do? What’s the matter, is Megan McCain starting to wear out?

Hey Sherwood,

These are the same A$$wipes that scared the crap out of us as kids telling us that a deadly “Ice Age” was just around the corner!

So, in the nicest way I can, why don’t you, the IPCC, Professor Mann from Penn State, the professors from East Anglia, and Al Gore, go F**k yourselves...how about that? All you’re doing is turning our kids into basket cases you self serving Bast**ds!

Is it just an interesting coincidence the author of the article, a former RINO elected official, Sherwood Boehlert, shares the same last name as the known JournoLister Eric Boehlert of George Soros' funded leftist media mouthpiece puppet organization Media Matters? Maybe the leftist JournoLister is his son?

Is it just an interesting coincidence the author of the article, sits on the Board of the of George Soros' funded leftist "bipartisan" Alliance for Climate Protection chaired by former Vice President Al Gore?

Just asking -anyone know?

15,000 years ago. 10,000 years back it was probably one of those places with simply horrid winters but no deep ice fields.

The Younger Dryass is Not part of the primary period of maximum glaciation (core of the Ice Age). it's a separate anomaly.

BTW, we are currently 5,000 years overdue for the next big one.

Regarding previous knowledge of ice ages, ice cores from Antarctica reveal we've had 20 big cycles in the last 2.5 million years ~ with global impact!

On the other hand, Antarctica has been credited with being ice covered for the last 5 to 7 million years.

More recently they've been studying a mountain range that's under 2 miles of ice, and it turns out some of that ice down near the mountains may be anywhere from 280,000,000 to 500,000,000+ years old.

That is, some Antarctic ice may date all the way back to the days of the last "Snow Ball Earth" episode.

Basically, that means "Snow Ball Earth" didn't really end, and plenty of Ice and Snow is a very normal situation on this planet. Toasty and warm isn't normal and will not last.

No, they are not the same dolts, nor are the folks telling you about the coming ice age "dolts". We have a major problem. After 21 periods of maximum glaciation arriving and leaving pretty much on schedule we've run into some sort of glitch where we are about 5,000 years overdue for the next one.

We should be studying that ~ not piddling with "warming".

[What I find incomprehensible is the dogged determination by some to discredit distinguished scientists and their findings.]

Politicians recognize political motivation when they see it.

More climatologists are declaring that human caused global warming is bogus all of the time. I don’t trust Romney one bit. He is just another greasy politician and way too far to the left for me.

This is one of the bums who suddenly dropped out of the race and supported John McCain. McCain threw the presidency right into Obama’s lap. McCain couldn’t raise any money. Every call I got soliciting funds for him I answered by reciting the contempt I feel for that little amnesty giving mutt.

Tonight on Hannity I heard Sarah Palin refer to McCain as her “hero.” I couldn’t believe it. If she thinks he is her hero after the way he shafted her during the campaign, she’s got rocks in her head. But more likely she is just one of them.

The whole political process in America is corrupt. The only hope this country has is the Tea Parties. I feel sick.
