Science the GOP can't wish away
The Washington Post ^ | Friday, November 19, 2010 | Sherwood Boehlert

Posted on 11/22/2010 7:18:56 PM PST by libs_kma

Watching the raft of newly elected GOP lawmakers converge on Washington, I couldn't help thinking about an issue I hope our party will better address. I call on my fellow Republicans to open their minds to rethinking what has largely become our party's line: denying that climate change and global warming are occurring and that they are largely due to human activities.

National Journal reported last month that 19 of the 20 serious GOP Senate challengers declared that the science of climate change is either inconclusive or flat-out wrong.

Hey Sherwood!

How about taking a nice long walk off of a real short pier!

That ought to cool you down!

He serves currently on the Board of the bipartisan Alliance for Climate Protection chaired by former Vice President Al Gore.

So, in other words, he just another enviroloony worried about his job. Great!

Bjorn Lomborg (”Can Anything Serious Happen in Cancun?”, op-ed, Nov. 12) claims that government spending on global warming policies is wasted, but he assumes that global warming caused by carbon dioxide is a fact. It is not. We base this statement not on the opinions of 31,000 American scientists who signed a public statement rejecting this warming hypothesis (the “Oregon Petition”), but rather because the forecasts of global warming were derived from faulty procedures.

We published a peer-reviewed paper showing that the forecasting procedures used by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change violated 72 of 89 relevant principles (e.g., “provide full disclosure of methods”). The IPCC has been unable to explain why it violated such principles. In response, we developed a model that follows the principles. Because the climate is complex and poorly understood, our model predicts that global average temperatures will not change.

In testing the models on global temperature data since 1850, we found that the long-range (91-to-100-years ahead) forecast errors from the IPCC’s projection were 12 times larger than the errors from our simple model.

Mr. Lomborg concludes there are better ways for governments to spend the funds devoted to global warming. We suggest this money should instead be returned to taxpayers.

Man’s activities don’t change climate. Climate has never been static, and it never will be. Selfgrandizing oneself into god status is a disease of the left. There is no science, only opinion when it comes to the issue of global warming because man has not even been able to determine how much rain falls to earth and/or on the water daily. Studies leave out the influence of the sun as if it was no be deal. Climate change is a tool of those wanting to dictate wealth distribution. Thank goodness there are people pushing back.

Who knew the Washington Post had a section where the mentally ill and cognitively challenged could write for one another?!!!

They've had that section for years...they call it the editorial page.

and that they are largely due to human activities

You know, I don't know what is worse - being ignorant of geology, anthropology, oceanography and history, or calling this transparent fraud "science".

100 000 years ago, my home was in a savanna. 10 000 years ago, it was under two miles of ice.

Before humans did anything of consequence, temperatures rose 18-20 degrees Celsius, all that ice melted, and the oceans rose 400 feet.

To believe that trivial (if they even exist at all) late temperature variations are human induced, while all those massive historical changes occurred on their own is just, just - IGNORANT.

.036% of the atmosphere is CO2, most of it existing already, yet we are the idiots for doubting global warming?

We have the perfect detectors for global warming - a world full of sea-side hotels. When the first 1-2 hotels have waves in the lobby (and it's not a hurricane) then we'll know something is up.

Unfortunately the credibility of the scientific method has been tarnished for today's crop of "scientists".

I remember Rush saying 15 or 20 years ago that environmentalists were like watermelons. Green on the outside. Red on the inside.

What everyone needs to realize is this is one big con job. Everything out government is doing is one big fraud. Most of it is illegal and unconstitutional.

The left loves being the loudest, immature screaming bully on the block. When your child acts like this how do you handle it? Treat the government like a tantrum throwing child.
