The two Republicans whose names came up most often on the NR cruise? Sarah Palin and Chris Christie.
In my interactions with only a fraction of the 700+ NR cruisegoers — mostly older, mostly well-off, passionate about politics, and many heavily involved with the tea parties — I found about two-thirds wildly enthusiastic about Sarah Palin; you could hear the gasps when Scott Rasmussen predicted she would not be the 2012 Republican nominee. Most of the remaining one-third said that while they personally liked Palin, they didn’t want to see her run in 2012, or anytime soon. An isolated few didn’t seem to like Palin much at all.
I was struck by how many Palin fans agreed with me that resigning the governorship, while understandable, is a serious misstep for any aspiring president. If you want to govern, it is best to demonstrate that you can govern.
The Palin family has taken over your television, between “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC and Bristol Palin dancing up a storm on “Dancing With the Stars.” You’re also seeing Palin on the cover of People and other non-political magazines. It’s odd to see a Republican begin to master the domination of pop culture that Obama practiced in 2007 and 2008, and this is certainly a way to keep Palin enthusiasts at a fever pitch. But I’m not sure this approach gets her where she wants to go, or at least whether it wins over the folks who aren’t on board with her already.

Like osamaobama? He was gov of IL for 8 years... uh nope, he was mayor of Chicago... uh nope...he was a US Senator for 2 years before he announced his Presidential candidacy.
Since when did all this experience become a requirement.
OK... we don’t like Romney... but the NR’s endorsement was when the field was narrowed to Romney, McCain and Huckabee. What should they do? Endorse a non-candidate?
She could not personally survive the financial hardship of staying on the job with all the BS lawsuits (all of which produced nothing at all).
Forced to quit, she markets herself and makes already many millions.
She didn't quit as a quitter, she was forced out by bleeding her personal wealth and causing her go take on massive debt for the family because Democrats wanted to play games
Speaks poorly for what is ahead in politics in the future unless they make it loser pays on costs of these lawsuits.

I get that... but these are conservative traits with which conservatives tend to identify. She has to reach beyond the base, and Indies on the whole won't care how well she rock climbs, fishes or skis. Her voice is going to have to clearer and louder than the state-run media when addressing the issue.
God was working when Obama was elected, too.
That said, I think Sarah is particularly vulnerable because she is so genuine and open. On top of that, I think she is going to have trouble attracting independents without which she cannot win.
In fact, I know conservative women who rail against Sarah because she (in their opinion) "flies by the seat of her pants" and does not speak in a deliberate manner. In a meeting a few weeks back when the subject turned to Sarah there was a female chorus of complaints chanting "the mouth, the mouth...the mouth on that woman."
IMO if Sarah is serious, she needs to get a coach to help her polish her speaking style (to soften it and add a touch of deliberateness). As you may recall, Maggie Thatcher worked with a National Theatre voice coach who lowered her pitch by 46 Hertz to a point where it fell half-way between the range of male and female.
I'm not saying Sarah should do the same thing, but coaching helps!
Well its nice to see the RINO’s move onto the next battleplan. It means the “Sarah cost us the Senate” and Gov Palin is a “joke” plans are NOt working very well for the RINOS.
so the next line of attack...is to go paint her as unfit to serve. this is different form the “joke” less ridicule more “concerned questioning”

She is lucky in that she has the truth on her side. Obama paid operatives, some using cartoon character names, were filing dozens of bogus ethics claims that she was forced to defend. It was bankrupting her family and keeping her from doing her job as Governor.
The narrative that she "quit' makes it sound like she was just lazy and didn't care...that is obviously NOT true. So the Alinsky tactics continue...it is just sad to se people on our side falling for it.
During the campaign I'm sure the issue will come up, and she will have an opportunity to address it. Once people see how vile and deceitful her political enemies were, her popularity will only grow. Tough sell?

We need ONE conservative candidate to counter the RINOs.
The problem is that there is no venue where that deal-making can take place and little opportunity for the various conservative candidates to develop and demonstrate the intangible "right stuff" that makes a candidate attractive on the campaign trail. Someone upthread suggested that Sarah might annoint a conservative standard-bearer but how can she know in advance how well her favorite will be received by the rest of us?

By the establishment bringing out the “resigned” meme this early brings a simle to by face.
That's actually a decent point. I realize she resigned because of the mountain of frivolous lawsuits and ethics charges that were filed against her but does anybody believe things will be any different, if not worse, when.....oops, heh-heh, I mean IF she's elected President?
Water under the bridge I know but it's a decent point. Still, I hope she runs.

You're right, of course. What's disturbing is that things have gotten so crazy here on FR lately that people taking essentially this position in advance have been zotted for doing so.
Yes, it will. People are getting a chance to meet a different Sarah Palin than the distorted image that has been created by the media. I know people who have changed their view of Sarah because of these other media avenues.
And FYI, what Sarah Palin did in resigning her governorship was an incredibly selfless act. A sign of a true servant of the people, unlike most politicians who are power hungry a-holes. In time, I am confident you will come around.
That's certainly my hope as well, however, currently her approval rating is, at best, in the 40s. It's going to take a lot of re-educating the electorate to turn that sentiment. You seem to have a lot of faith in the goodness of American voters. I'm more guarded. We shall see.

It's watching the meltdown exhibited by The Professional Left and The Corrupt Bass Turds in Big Media whenever she's on TV that keeps us fired up.
We just love watching the screws on the Leftist hinge slowly backing out little by little.

I know many Palin supporters and almost none agree with that. You’d have to be politically naive to believe that...or a PDS’r.
