Nikkei Shimbun (in Japanese) ^ | 22 November 2010 | Shimao Kitao, Journalist

Posted on 11/21/2010 10:14:28 PM PST by AmericanInTokyo

KIM TAE YON made the statement just now in S. Korean Parliament (budget committee) that this is due to the just released information that North Korea has been building a light water nuclear reactor at amazing speed, details just released to the world and satellite photos also revealed.

Minister of Defense of South Korea Kim stated that this is to put a halt to North Korean nuclear weapons ambition, and is now being considered, which will go back on South Korea's committment in 1991 under President Roh Tae Woo to never manufacturer, house or use nuclear weapons in South Korea.

Wonder how China will respond to this news? Let alone N.Korea Kim. This would change the equation just in the announcement.

South Korea will never again be able to count on the protection of the US with anything but talk. They should build it and far to the south where it couldn’t quickly and easily be overrun.

Let alone Japan.

One thing is sure, weakness on the part of a good party (we have had it for two years in the form of Barack Hussein Obama -- and some would also say in the final two years of Bush 43 Part Two under Condi and Chris Jong Hill), will always invite WAR or agression on the part of the evil party, ironically. One would think humans throughout history would have learned this.

Until Palin or John Bolton is President of the USA, this is precisely what I would do, too, if I were the Republic of Korea (South Korea). Wise advice. Obama cannot be depended upon. Japan is learning this, too.

It is creating a whole new power balance and scurrying for various actions out here by all the powers affected.

From your keyboard to God's ear for a Palin or Bolton presidency. I fear it'll never happen, though. More likely another RINO that talks like a conservative while campaigning and becomes more interested in his ‘legacy’ which means he must become 'more reasonable and moderate' and suck up to the press and bureaucrats.

Better than even chance the GOP will field an absolute CENTRIST RINO LOSER against President Biden in 2012 is my take. If the Party Elite have any control over the situation, it may well be John McCain II all over again, w/ a somewhat conservative VP choice to balance things, but still a losing ticket.

Even if SK can rely on US protection, she should build nukes if NK with China’s backing is building nukes. This puts China on notice that their nuke proliferation strategy just backfired on them. NK is demonstrating to the world that a small country can get its way and prevent super power invasion, well guess what minds in Taiwan are churning. If Taiwan builds nukes, China can never retake it. If Vietnam builds nukes, guess what China’s claims on the South China Seas and Spratley Islands just got complicated.

Oh yes, of course Japan.

We will always have wars, however since Obama has been in office the worlds leaders are having a free for all. Each for himself, for the most part, and with that the eager anticipation of power. Unfortunatley the US has become such a laughingstock few if any are concerned with how the US Responds.

Interesting and noted during Obamas Asian Global meeting.....when they all met for the group photo... Obama was positioned in the “family photo” of leadership... way off to the side. Spoke volumes!

He has gone so much further than Carter there simply is little comparison now IMO. Obama is a different breed entirely...and filled with a different spirit than that of our country. It is not going to get better while he remains in office...rather worse.
