Glenn Beck: They’re lying to us about the mystery contrail

Glenn Beck said today that he has spoken to military experts about the mystery contrail from a few weeks ago and he says it’s definitely not a plane, but rather a two stage missile. He just wants to know where it came from, and he has a theory. Beck postulates that this missile was possibly from a Chinese sub off the coast of California, perhaps as a show of force to the world, but even more so to President Obama.

For something you say was not fast moving your link to 18 seconds of video sure is ludicrous. Can't you imagine how crazy that seems to me?

This exhaust trail was from a different point on the coast and 10 miles inland which showed a more Northerly track.

I say again a missile traveling away from the camera will stay in frame until it is out of sight.

I am amazed that what is clearly a missile launch can be spun into the claim of a cargo jet moving in the opposite direction across the continental US.

You protectors of Obama's failed foreign policy sure have some chutzpah. Do you claim the North Korean attack on the Republic of Korea was simply volcanic eruptions?

I've seen the video and find it thoroughly unconvincing as proof of a missile. In particular I don't see how anyone with any kind of spatial reasoning can perceive it as traveling towards the west. That is just absurd.

Look at the lower part of the contrail, the part closest to the horizon. Do you see how red it is?

That's because it's further away from us. There's more hazy atmosphere between us and it which gives it a redder color. If the base of the contrail were closer to us -- as would be the case if the rocket were travelling westward or northwestward -- it wouldn't be red like that.

Also, look at the subtle shadow cast by the contrail.

That shadow wouldn't be there if the contrail were headed out westward, and it certainly wouldn't move in relationship to the contrail the way it does. Only a contrail heading towards you can cast a shadow like that.

Also, just generally the lighting on the contrail is consistent with being lit from the rear, side and underneath at a glancing angle by the setting sun. I've seen several times where people have said the lighting on the contrail could only come from a vertical launch but that simply strikes me as wrong.

Everything -- all of the subtle visual cues that we use to judge the position and orientation of things -- seem perfectly consistent with an airliner flying in from the west in an eastern direction.

The notion that the still shots are "unconfirmed" is simply grasping at straws to avoid facing the reality of what's going on here. Look at the Cargo Law site. They have a fixed web cam positioned at a point somewhat north of the contrail. And guess what -- it has a profile shot of the contrail that plainly shows it coming in from the west in an eastern direction. Either that or they're part of the conspiracy...but come on. How about the NASA pic showing the contrail? Is it part of the conspiracy?

Occam's razor and basic spatial reasoning say this thing was a plane.

I will try to answer the question then, the “missile” conspiracy speaks straight to the heart of our safety and security. The missileers are racists that desperately want to pin a made-up lapse of national security on the black man - our president. As soon as whitey gets back in the white house, everything will miraculously be safe and secure.

I just don't think it is wise to assume anything these days, especially with all the alien (not illegals, either) and UFO crap being covered up by our government and their Lapdog Press. Not that this event had anything to do with UFO stuff, but there is a valid history of chem-trail activity all over the globe and people are definitely getting ill from this crap being fuel-dumped on us!. I have an old report from the 90's about crap here in PA they tested in 5 separate labs that would make you sick to your stomach what somebody is doing, and I'm sure it's NWO activity.

If you say it was a jet, then it was a jet. But don't be surprised if, in the future, there are some strange happenings around us, and I mean in the near future. Buckle up. It never hurts to be vigilant!

Only a contrail heading towards you can cast a shadow like that.

A shadow is cast behind an object when the object is between a light source and the shadow it creates. The Sun sets at dusk in the West over The Pacific Ocean. If what you are seeing is a shadow of a contrail you would have to be the Sun as the dark line you refer to appears to the left and therefore behind the plume.

The darker red illumination of the exhaust plume at the horizon is cause by that part of the sky already beginning to be in darkness whereas the upper part of the sky is still lit from the Sun at an angle below the horizon. The proof of this is that the foreground of the photos is already darkness of the terminator.

The Rick Warren photos are clearly no proof of a jet aircraft arcing Easterly over the USA.

If what you are seeing is a shadow of a contrail you would have to be the Sun as the dark line you refer to appears to the left and therefore behind the plume.

The shadow extends to the southeast, which is in front of the contrail. Leftward doesn't translate to westward in this scene.

That's not quite right since reduced illumination causes things to become darker, not redder. But you've made me rethink exactly why it is that the base of the contrail is obviously more distant than the upper part. It's not really the redness, which is mainly due to the sunlight at the lower angles having to pass through more lower atmosphere which scatters out more of its blue wavelengths, making it appear redder (the reason sunsets are red).

Instead it's that the base is hazier and less detailed, which is consistent with it being more distant. Also that it's more diffused -- more spread out, in fact a lot more spread out -- which means it was expelled from the plane quite a bit earlier. The only way to account for the extra diffusion time is if it's receding back towards the horizon to the west.

No, I am extrapolating my own conspiracy theory out of this one, as crazy as it sounds. A good conspiracy theory cannot be limited in it’s sketchy extrapolations and insane evolutions.
