Video posted on the CBS Los Angeles website shows an object flying through the evening sky Monday that left a large contrail, or vapor trail. While cruising the skies Monday at sunset, Sky2 captured on video what appears to be a missile making its way up into the sky from over the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.
Pentagon officials were stumped by the event. Nobody within the Department of Defense that weve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from, Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said.

LOL! Yeah, if WND said the sky was blue I’d check.
We don’t need Michael Savage, we have you to guide us.
So, where’s the stage separation? Chinese SLBM’s are two stage, remember?
How did a guy take photos from his balcony (with a $900 off-the-shelf Nikon) of an object that should have been thousands of miles away and in outer space by the time he took some of the photos?
Yes. Remember that.
Your mission is now to review and condense a synopsis all 5,000 posts and theories on the matter, then file your final report and leave it on my desk by Monday. Surprise me.
UCANSEE2’s posts sparked a thought, forgive me if you’ve already posed it.
Out of the 40 second “raw” video, we actually have about 12 seconds of non-repeating footage.
This is a rough calc from your screen grabs, but:
12 seconds of video is all the evidence we have from the original source of the whole affair??
FWIW:
1) Glenn Beck has picked on this topic, HotAir has picked up on Beck’s report. It’s bumped the story.
2) KCBS has released all of about 12 seconds of video, mislabeled as “raw,” to start this brouhaha. And clammed up since.
3) No matter which side you take on the event, you want to see the whole shoot, hopefully along with data on the location, altitude, timecode, camera, lens.
4) Glenn Beck has a bigger megaphone than we do.
5) Beck might be able to get the station to release the video.
—— What if we all contacted Beck with that request in the context of media malfeasance in not providing all the evidence they have?
I’m there. We need to know if the media is withholding vital information or yanking our chains. Either way they ought to be held accountable.
Not to ignore the humorous nature of your post (I chuckled, it was nice) could you answer my questions? Why no stage separation and why is it still visible to a $900 Nikon several minutes after launch?
Happy sunday, boss!
Yep, less than 20 seconds out of the supposed ten minutes. Gotta run to church now, but you can add up the duraions from my graphic in #1, if you like.
Nice to see that you have a sense of humor (Hmmm...are you stalling over Monday's assignment? ;-)
Why no stage separation and why is it still visible to a $900 Nikon several minutes after launch?
I'm not a ballistics expert (and don't play one on TV) but is it possible that the video of the "missile" launch was taken during a prolonged stage one? It's my understanding that while a missile is trying to gain altitude, it is much slower than at it's top speed.
There is also a possibility that the stage two booster rocket you're looking for failed as well and the thing fizzled. And just maybe the entire launching was half-assed by design.
It still does NOT appear to be a jet.
As to your question regarding why a Nikon could still catch a glimpse several minutes later, I'm sorry I haven't an answer for you.
4) Glenn Beck has a bigger megaphone than we do. 5) Beck might be able to get the station to release the video. What if we all contacted Beck with that request in the context of media malfeasance in not providing all the evidence they have?
I'm down wit dat, D.
Let's have Beck put the onus on CBS and demand they produce their complete "source" and tape in its entirety.
What could CBS say? Release a statement to the effect that the footage is now regarded as "Classified"? Say they "lost" the rest of the footage"?
Was the footage recycled? DID CBS "create" the news again? OR, could the fed actually have confiscated it in its entirety? (cue scary music)
CBS dangled the carrot. We bit. But on what? And whose?
I'm a So Cal private pilot...someone here asked me "surely you have seen this before?". Actually no...I've seen countless contrails...a number of missile launches in my time...but I've never seen a contrail I would confuse for a missile launch. An honest answer to his question.
Let's have Beck put the onus on CBS and demand they produce their complete "source" and tape in its entirety.
The hook here, IMHO, is that the station said "judge for yourself" looking at their heavily edited tape:
This by itself is dishonest. The "raw" video consists of the same shots repeated - a total of approximately 15 seconds of video mixed up and spliced into a 40 minute report.
I think Beck should go after KCBS - the affiliate that shot it. They've been mute ever since. Where's the full video?

They say they cannot possible read all emails. That’s understandable. Maybe if we used the same subject line to indicate it’s a group of folks requesting the same thing.
Maybe the subject could be: “Where’s the full Missile Video?”
?
Gil Leyvas assumed that this event was happening again on the 8th so he called it in. Obviously the time is crucial here. Was it at sunset again? UPS902 MD-11 was also flying the exact same route and time into Ontario. Did an MD-11 persistent contrail at sunset confuse Gil Leyvas twice?
It would be interesting to see if the LAX webcam captured the 4th November event that Gil Leyvas witnessed? Did the webcam also record the 4th November UPS902 MD-11 flight?
One of the main problems with this analysis has been linking up Rick Waren's still photos with matching frames on the video. That problem has now been solved.
The final frames of a section of the video published separately by NECN have now been shown to match up perfectly with images in Warren's still photos -- which, in turn, have been matched exactly to the flight profile of UPS902 by "Uncinius" at contrailscience.com.
The bottom line is that we now have a solid, traceable photo/video link of UPS 902's approach from approximately over Catalina -- all the way back to 35K+ ft at the horizon -- inbound to KORD from PHNL (Hawaii).
Obtaining more of the video (particularly the final frames-- and getting the entire time sequence in unaltered order) can only provide reinforcement of this meticulous analysis.
~~~~~~~~~~
Of course, as I have challenged the "missile believers" at least a half dozen times: "Show how the bottom (beginning) of a rocket plume rising from the sea's surface can be the brightest object in a video -- when the area it originated from is already in deep shadow well after sunset."
Go ahead -- demonstrate that one proof. That was my very first question concerning the video, and the answer is: The last thing illuminated by full, white sunlight after sunset is the sky from 30K feet upward.
Did your "submarine-launched ballistic missile" start off at 30K+feet of altitude?
~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, Missile folks -- we've shown you our proof - now show us yours...
Is it possible to check? Where'd the screencap of the Nov. 8 event come from?
If I already thanked you -- that just shows how thankful I really am! ;-)

Maybe if we used the same subject line to indicate its a group of folks requesting the same thing.
LET'S DO IT.
Maybe the subject could be: Wheres the full Missile Video?
DONE.
The answer is that the object was coming toward CA -- not out to sea. That's because it was an incoming MD-11 flight from Hawaii to Ontario, California...
The videotaped contrail inarguably shows an aircraft inbound to CA from HI -- NOT a missile headed seaward from near the coast.
Case closed -- except for getting CBS to cough up their UNEDITED ten minues of videotape...
