Sen. Rockefeller, in a more rare and honest moment, says that he is tired of the Right and the Left and that wed all be better off if the FCC would shut down Fox News and MSNBC. Thats interesting, because the FCC doesnt have any jurisdiction over cable whatsoever. At least not yet.
You see, Rockefeller says he hungers for quality news and believes that the FCC should play a part in facilitating that end. He believes that without the extremes of Fox News and MSNBC, the American people would have more faith in their government, would have better political discourse, and that it would help legislators do their work. Yeah right, Fox News is the reason why the American people dont have faith in their government.
What Rockefeller really wants is news that doesnt hold him and his legislative buddies accountable. He doesnt want news that would appropriately vet, say, President Obama, and uncover what he really believes and how its the complete opposite of what the majority of Americans believe. What he wants is a propaganda machine, which is why for the life of me I cant figure out why he wants MSNBC taken off the air. Anyway, what this is really about is not what the American people want, but rather what he wants freedom of speech and the Constitution be damned.
The bigger point here is the size of government. This is a prime example of why we must limit the size of government so as to maximize the freedom of the individual. Milton Friedman points out that every person works for their own self interest and the bigger the government, the better chance that a legislators self interest will conflict with yours. And when they conflict, we all know who wins that battle (i.e. Obamacare).
If left alone, the American people will decide which news outlets are successful and which are not, and thats the way it should be. I just hope that the next time Sen. Rockefeller is on the ballot, the American people teach him a good lesson by using their constitutionally protected freedom of speech and send him packing.
Totalitarian regimes always control the media. In this country, the establishment doesn’t have to control most of the media, because the media voluntarily toes the party line. What they really want to control is normal peoples’ talk radio and Fox News because they don’t parrot the official propaganda.
In the 60’s and 70’s, my father had business dealings with Jay and knew him quite well. Since then, if Dad ever witnessed anything extraordinarily stupid he would say “Now that is Rockefeller stupid.”
Actually, we don’t really know this. It is amazing what wealth and voter fraud can buy...
his wife works for npr.
how hypocritical.
Now give him a break, with his money and arrogance he is so far above the average unwashed voter that rules and the Constitution are of no concern if they differ from what he wants.
Funny how real motives are fleshed out when people are able to find the information for themselves.

Trying to violate the 1st Amendment? Have you left Rocky to join up with Boris and Natasha?
Bingo!
Get real: "MSNBC for Fox"? He might as well have offered "Waynes World"!
That’s what I said...
National Socialist is Nazi...thus Hitlerlike
It’s a slam on the dems that are too stupid to know the difference.
Joe Manchin had to say he would be a republican to get elected over a guy everytime I saw him said he is so dull he can never win. West Virginia won't put Jay Rockefeller back in again.
If you find someone to run against him - maybe the same guy you ran against Manchin? - he sure has some fresh ammo with Rockefeller's saying that it was hard to do the work of Senator in the presence of MSNBC and FNC.He can just point out that if Sen. Rockefeller can't stand to know that the people on the left and the right have their voices heard in West Virginia, he is apparently over the hill.

It did go away rather quickly did it not?
