Sen. Rockefeller: FCC should shut down Fox News and MSNBC
Hot Air ^ | November 18, 2010 | R Scoop

Posted on 11/19/2010 5:12:06 AM PST by IbJensen

Sen. Rockefeller, in a more rare and honest moment, says that he is tired of the Right and the Left and that we’d all be better off if the FCC would shut down Fox News and MSNBC. That’s interesting, because the FCC doesn’t have any jurisdiction over cable whatsoever. At least not yet.

You see, Rockefeller says he hungers for quality news and believes that the FCC should play a part in facilitating that end. He believes that without the extremes of Fox News and MSNBC, the American people would have more faith in their government, would have better political discourse, and that it would help legislators do their work. Yeah right, Fox News is the reason why the American people don’t have faith in their government.

What Rockefeller really wants is news that doesn’t hold him and his legislative buddies accountable. He doesn’t want news that would appropriately vet, say, President Obama, and uncover what he really believes and how it’s the complete opposite of what the majority of Americans believe. What he wants is a propaganda machine, which is why for the life of me I can’t figure out why he wants MSNBC taken off the air. Anyway, what this is really about is not what the American people want, but rather what he wants – freedom of speech and the Constitution be damned.

The bigger point here is the size of government. This is a prime example of why we must limit the size of government so as to maximize the freedom of the individual. Milton Friedman points out that every person works for their own self interest and the bigger the government, the better chance that a legislator’s self interest will conflict with yours. And when they conflict, we all know who wins that battle (i.e. Obamacare).

If left alone, the American people will decide which news outlets are successful and which are not, and that’s the way it should be. I just hope that the next time Sen. Rockefeller is on the ballot, the American people teach him a good lesson by using their constitutionally protected freedom of speech and send him packing.

How long has this socialist been camped out in WVa? If ever an insult existed to the intelligence of West Virginians it is this bozo.

love the “fair and balanced” Fox AND MS-LSD... MS-LSD has lower ratings than the “Airline RADAR Channel”

Now, if he added CNN to the mix..he might have had 2 or 3 seconds worth of Credibility.

These Marxist Dems are starting to sound more like National Socialists. just MHO

Yet another elitist fool opens his mouth and removes all doubt about what is really wrong with Congress. People like Rockefeller are all but guaranteeing their own political demise with comments like this......

John D. Rockefeller IV is the scion of the Rockefeller Standard Oil fortune. He is the beneficiary of an enormous dynastic trust managed inpart by his uncle David(Chase Manhattan Bank, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center etc. etc.).

He has never in his entire life had to get his hands dirty in any kind of toil.

He bought hisseat in West Virginia for about $10 million of his own money which was huge at the time.

His wife, SharonPercy Rockefeller is President of WETA television, another government parasite.

Rockefeller and his wife are so removed from everyday people as to find them unrecognizable.

I think this is his last time being elected in West Virginia.

Joe Manchin had to say he would be a republican to get elected over a guy everytime I saw him said he is so dull he can never win. West Virginia won't put Jay Rockefeller back in again.

Rockefeller's only been in D.C. for 25 years. You can't expect him to learn all about the government in that short a period of time, can you?

"He’s not just a good-ole-boy who lives up in a holler."

Well he is a good old elitist boy with huge money and runs with a very elitist crowd well removed from the likes of we common folk.

As to the holler, he owns the thing and it is big, very big indeed.

“which is why for the life of me I can’t figure out why he wants MSNBC taken off the air.”

This is just camouflage. He really wants FOX off the air but he had to try to sound balanced and picked MSNBC. Liberals would gladly trade MSNBC to get FOX off the air. He tried to equate FOX and MSNBC when it’s not even close. Nobody watches MSNBC. He tried to suggest by this that FOX is as looney as MSNBC.

In fact FOX counterbalances ABC, CBS and NBC combined - not MSNBC.

Liberals only care about the constitution when they can use it for their benefit.

That whole “freedom of speach” thingy is not for people who disagree with them

Marxist Dems? More Nazi-like.

They were pretty sympathetic to Adolph Hitler.

Standard Oil and Chase Manhattan in particular.

Some say "elites". I say "plutocrats".

Rocky Feller is willing to throw 500,000 MSNBC viewers (or is it less) under the bus to get FOX News off the air and let NPR handle the “fair and balanced” reporting.

What a man. What a country.

His Majesty knows that if MSNBC went off the air, the left would still control 90% of the media. On the other hand, if Fox could be taken out...

I had forgotten that he is married to the late Sen. Percy's daughter. I am sure that there is no connection between his remarks and his wife's affiliation with a government television entity that has been lambasted by the right recently. Do they really think that we are as stupid as they seem to be?
I grew up in Illinois and the murder of Sen. Percy's other daughter always seemed far less transparent than the remarks the current senator from WV just made. The general feeling of people in our state was that there was a cover-up of some kind when she was murdered. No one could ever quite figure out what it was, but there was a general gut reaction that something just wasn't adding up about her murder.

Well he can’t have Fox snooping about and actually doing investigative reporting now, can he? There must be no deviation from the “information” provided by leftist approved media sources. If Fox can be silenced, talk radio will be naturally be next. MSNBC’s demise would be a small price (just a pawn on the board) to pay.

Freedom of (approved) speech. Yeah, that’s the ticket!/sarc
