The head of the Transportation Security Administration says the close-quarter body inspections causing a furor among some passengers and pilots are unavoidable in a time of terrorist threats.

John Pistole tells CBS's "The Early Show" he understands public distaste for more intense security procedures, particulary hand pat-downs. He called it a "challenge" for federal authorities and airport screeners.

To lead by example, these a$$holes should have to go through these machines AND 4% of them get love-searched’ EVERY TIME they enter the Capitol.

We can’t profile, now can we, so search EVERY person, EVERY time.

If it’s good for us in an airport, it’s good for them in the name of security.

Not patting down but feeling up.

These intrusions are neither effective nor necessary!

Israeli procedures are less intrusive and effective.

America has to get passed the notion that “profiling” is a dirty word.

America is passed that notion. It is the “elite class” which is not.

The TSA should be wholly disbanded.

It would be ironic if the most sought after DVD in places where Moslem terrorism flourishes was the latest Batman movie.

The one where the Joker sews a cellphone bomb into a guy and gets him sent to jail in order to blow it up.

Any sort of “profiling” allowed in this area would have a “splash” effect that the left cannot allow.

If you accept the idea that certain people who fit a profile are more likely to commit criminal acts, well...

that spills out into general society and the left has a “problem” with certain demographics that are more likely to commit crimes, especially violent crimes.

Be honest, please. There would be a cacophony of an uproar if the US attempted adopted the Israeli profiling system.

It does not simplistically pull aside swarthy looking men/women (not a chance of that being done in the US, either). Israel is an intrusive police state when it comes to accumulating dossiers on every one, much more than just IRS files.

How much bigger of a file do you want Janet Napolitano to have of you? Because that is the realistic choice we face.

The easy and fair way to resolve this controversy is to pass a law requiring all bureaucrats and elected officials (federal and state) traveling on business to use commercial airlines and go through the same ticketing, check-in, and security searches as the general public.

There are to be no special treatments, policies, shortcuts, bypass lines, etc. for government employees and officials. Of course, the president will have to be the single exception from the policy or he will veto the bill.

Once that bill hits the presidents desk for signature it will take about 14 nano-seconds for congress to eliminate the scan and grope policy.
