You would think that the kids of today would have higher standards for their entertainment. Of course, many of them have probably never seen some of the great comedic talents of the past. The stuff that passes for comedy today doesn’t really require much intellect, does it?
"Some people beat people up with their fists. He's just a punk kid that beats up others with words, but that somehow is acceptable."
A character analysis of Jon Stewart, brings to mind others, who seem to be of a certain personality type. As you state in that this is somehow acceptable, here is the open door for people of this kind. They are shielded from the criticism that they deserve. Most of the public seem mesmerized by this kind of person. Perhaps they secretly feel lucky that it is not THEM in the line of fire.
It is quite possible that a psychological assessment would rate such unkind persons as Stewart as a sociopath. Clever people indeed and they have learned to deal in nastiness and hurt, by using the guise of so-called humour.
A reaction by this man on being ridiculed would be interesting. One would not risk getting in his face, if he came out in his true colours.
Yes, on re-reading the post, I realized that Stewart seemed to have a little decency here. However, it could also be a sense of just what has flattened some very popular people in the past. There is a time when they may have just gone too far. Then their so-called fans end up joining in a witch hunt, calling for their removal.
I am bearing in mind the Imus case and way, way back poor Howard Cossell. Well, hard to say this, but he may have the benefit of the doubt here.
The problem: Stewart has it both ways. He wields his influence with total arrogance, and retreats back behind his clown nose at the first hint of accountability.
He does that, and keeps on doing it, and we have to figure out some way of dealing with it and knocking him off his pulpit. Right now we just have to watch him get away with it.
But I believe he's also a lazy bum. He has this huge staff writing all his gags, producers to edit his miserable little show to make it funnier...he doesn't make appearances in public without his goons...
Same for his creepy friend, Colbert. Do these guys really get the ratings? When I watch, this is the most commercial-full show ever. Four minutes of f***ings and sh**s and then five minutes of commercials. I so don't get it.
Also, they know that their advertisers don't have to worry about politically driven boycotts. Who on our side is going to boycott World of Warcraft? I guess we could stop refusing to pay our kids' subscriptions to the stupid games that advertise on Comedy Central. Also the hot sports cars that most of this audience will never be able to afford, thanks to the progressives wrecking out economy. And all those ads for vodka...
How to hit back at Stewart is a real puzzle. But somehow, before 2012, he needs to be neutered.
See my last post on Stewart. This guy has to be connected to Soros, somehow. Or his writers. One day an angle will present itself.
Apparently you missed his Northwestern appearance in 08 where he stood up on a stage in front of college students with his face contorted with rage going, "F*ck you, Sarah Palin! F*ck you!" to the howling approval of drunken frat boys.
He's a vicious little bully with a poor grasp on his own existential rage. (Emphasis on little. He's about five feet tall. And he has hair plugs.)
Who do you know with the ability to think coherently and argue persuasively that can't get through two sentences without "f*cking* or "sh*t"? A nasty mouth does not indicate any kind of refined intellect. And this guy has small children.
He's floundering right now, which may be an opportunity. He saw his side take a beating, and like all cowards, is in a little bit of a retreat. He knows his audience will be facing reduced paychecks, or his audience's parents (a lot of his audience are losers who are still living at home) will be facing reduced paychecks.
I'm part of his semi-regular audience right now, making it my personal business to find the chink in his armor of shtick.
I should have said, “MORE OF A” critical thinker than most liberals.
The problem: Stewart has it both ways. He wields his influence with total arrogance, and retreats back behind his clown nose at the first hint of accountability.
Just in from a spot of ten pin bowling for seniors. I was puzzled about said Draco. I called my wife over to identify the Wikipedia entry. She has been to every one of the Harry Potter movies (I don't go). "That's the bad guy" she quoth.
I thought he looked like the awful man called Julian Assange, the wikileaks person. About thirty years younger though (laughs).
I have heard liberals criticize conservative talk show hosts for lack of sensitivity. They seem completely oblivious of their own entertainers- the masters of snide. Anyway thanks for the post and it is well thought out. From way out in left field in Canada, I somehow think that their time has been and gone. Funny no more.
