Sanford Airport (Orlando, FL) to opt out of TSA screening

The backlash continues over those new TSA screening measures, and now one Central Florida airport has decided to go with a private security screening firm.

Orlando Sanford International Airport has decided to opt out from TSA screening.

"All of our due diligence shows it's the way to go," said Larry Dale, the director of the Sanford Airport Authority. "You're going to get better service at a better price and more accountability and better customer service."

Dale says he will be sending a letter requesting to opt out from TSA screening, and instead the airport will choose one of the five approved private screening companies to take over.

Congressman John Mica, who's expected to lead the powerful Transportation Committee next year, says the TSA is crying out for reform.

"I think TSA is overstepping its bounds," said Mica.

Dale says, if all goes as planned, the private security firm could take over in about 12 months.

"I think TSA is overstepping its bounds," said Mica.

Well gee, what was your first clue, Sherlock? How about the whole US government overstepping its constitutional bounds? Too bad we can't opt out of unconstitutional wealth transfer payment from the producers to the welfare parasites.

I don’t think the TSA is unionized ... yet. Remember GW insisted that they NOT be union.

BO is trying to change that.

San Francisco International (SFO) and several other airports have had private security all along. From what I’ve heard, they aren’t much different than the TSA run hell holes.

Orlando - Sanford International is a small airport serving the Orlando area....

The major airport serving Orlando is a different facility.....Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Free enterprise and sensible ideas...in Florida!

You say that like it's a surprise. Florida - No income tax. Florida - discount on your property tax if you pay early. Florida - elected conservative Rubio to senate. Florida - elected conservative Scott over Obama dog washer Sink for governor. I'd say there is marginally more common sense in FL than in a lot of other states (maybe it's all the old f@rts who live there)

We live in interesting times.

Like yourself, NRG, I wonder if the TSA will let them.

I predict they are going to get the same treatment as everyone else who elects to "opt out".

I am familiar with MCO, I used to travel every other year to Orlando from Alaska this time of the year.

Last time was 2004, too scary to risk it anymore.

MICA is off base here...it is not who is doing the screening, it is the regulations in place concerning the screenings...they need be changed PRONTO to be reasonable. To me that means PROFILING.

Long before the terrorists came up with the hijacking planes senario, some individuals had bombed planes to benefit from insurance claims on the targeted passenger. So, along came the x rays of luggage. Then in response to hijackings came the metal detectors. Neither of these two were evasive. Now, in response to attempted bombings in flight we have these stupid full body scans or extreme pat downs. When they fail, which they will because someone will secret a bomb up their A hole, what is next, a proctologist exam to fly? I think the public needs to say hell no, we have gone over the edge here. I am not a terrorist criminal and I don’t wish to be treated as one as a condition of using a conveyance. This completely undermines the fourth amendment and the interstate commerce clause of some archeic, in some minds, founding document, our Constitution. So, show me the clause in that document that says you cannot profile? Case Closed.

Florida - elected conservative Scott over Obama dog washer Sink for governor.

Scott and his healthcare company were targeted by the Clinton WH for opposing HillaryCare.

And don't you just know Hillary watched the election results and wrote off Florida. A few ashtrays flying around the room when Sink conceded.

BTW - No small coincidence that Bill Clinton campaigned several times in Florida for the Dems' Meek for Senator (even stirring up the rumors he asked Meek to drop out so Crist would have a shot at winning) and Sink.

I just went through MCO twice. No problems, very friendly TSA people, helpful and sensible. Lines went quick and any problems were addressed without delay and with other passengers being routed around the problems. Couldn’t have been more satisfied or felt safer.

But I guess my feeling satisfied and safe is not on the BHO/Big Sis agenda.

This scan stuff would not have detected the 9-11 scabs (maybe their box cutters, but that would have just been confiscated), and muslim women get a pass.

What is wrong w/ dumping political correctness? Well, we don’t want to embarrass anyone...LOL!

You have and will have two options: 1. Submit to being felt up and groped.
2. Don’t fly.

The groping and feelups are being done under FAA and TSA approved procedures.Any airport that is FAA approved must meet FAA standards which now includes TSA.

When bus and rail traffic increase, look for the same procedures to be instituted at Bus stations ans Train depots.

Joe, do not fall for the bullshit that the other idiots they stick a camera in their faces andthe idiots parrots “It makes me secure”, this has nothing with security. It has everything to do with conditing the sheep to obey orders without questioning. It is another step toward a Governmental dictatorship.

Last but not lest, why the big push toward “lightrail”? In spite of what they[governmental officials and their lackies] say, in my opinion, the actual purpose is to get us out of our vehicles. Why? The less mobile, the easier the sheep are to control.

In closing, never forget: Free people drive and ride in cars and trucks. Slaves ride buses, “light rail”, and eventually, boxcars.

Good luck on your trip.

Not going to happen under Obama! Remember the Drilling Ban in the Gulf of Mexico. 1st a court said no, then Obama changed the wording, then the court said no again. Well we now have an approval process in order to drill in the Gulf. Want to guess how many wells have been drilled? Same thing will happen to this situation. 1st Obama will said the airport cannot drop the TSA, then a court will rule against Obama. Next Obama will revise the program and loss the next court case. Lastly Obama will put in place a program to review the private firms to determine if they are acceptable. So as I said a non-starter.

At least Mickey is showing his brass ones to someone other than the TSA.

I would recommend contacting small airports that can really benefit from the increased inconvenience of the large ones. Just this morning, I submitted the following to the "Chicago-Rockford International Airport (RFD)": Dear sir or madam:

I am a long-time supporter of the Rockford airport, and appreciate the convenience and service it provides.

I believe the RFD can get some positive news coverage, Chicagoland interest and possibly a new passenger carrier if you opted-out of TSA screening, as Sanford (Orlando) airport has. I am sure that a private company will earn its expense by providing both great safety and intelligent screening, without the use of backscatter x-rays and frequent body searches.

Please consider this suggestion as one more way to show that RFD is a better way to go.

Sincerely,

I received the following polite response:

Thank you for your email offering a suggestion regarding the TSA screening process. I certainly appreciate you taking the time to let us know your thoughts on this and I will forward it on to the appropriate folks.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Pam

Few people know that the law authorizing the TSA gives airports the right to not accept the TSA as their security employees.
