President Obama dropped a bipartisan bombshell today, announcing he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom next year to ex-President George H.W. Bush.
The magnanimous gesture of bestowing the nations highest civilian honor to the 41st U.S. President came a day after ex-President George W. Bush gave a respectful nod to Obama at the groundbreaking of his library in Dallas.
The decisions of governing are on another Presidents desk, and he deserves to make them without criticism from me, Bush said at the site of his future library at Southern Methodist University.
NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, St. Louis (baseball) Hall of Famer Stan Musial, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Wall Street wizard Warren Buffett top the list of scholars, athletes, artists, achievers and do-gooders who will be presented the award at a White House ceremony early next year.
These outstanding honorees come from a broad range of backgrounds and theyve excelled in a broad range of fields, but all of them have lived extraordinary lives that have inspired us, enriched our culture, and made our country and our world a better place. I look forward to awarding them this honor, Obama said.
The rest of the list includes civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), environmentalist John H. Adams, poet Maya Angelou, Holocaust survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein, optometrist murdered by the Taliban Dr. Tom Little, civil rights activist Sylvia Mendez, disabled rights advocate Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and former AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney.
DUmmie heads will EXPLODE!
Political move by the Marxist, but very nice for #41.
When I saw the headline on Google news, it DID say George W. Bush and then when I clicked thru to the source it was the headline you see here. That may pop some heads right there!!
Yo-Yo Ma honored by O-Ba Ma?
That thousand points of light thing, eh?

“Political move by the Marxist, but very nice for #41.”
ANY “medal” awarded by obama is diminished by the stench that accompanies it.
And so Ubanga’s 2012 campaign begins in earnest...
I question the timing.
I’m sure Bush I would prefer a medal from a real President.
Yo-Yo Ma’s recording of the Bach Suites for Unaccompanied Cello are on my Desert Island List of recordings.
That's TexasGentSpeak for, "I don't want to be anywhere near all his messups!"
Stan the Man honored by Barry the Fairy?
Seriesly, though, here in St. Louis, Stan Musial is revered, and rightly so. As great a man as he was a player.
Glad for Sr but I thought it was George W. too... Still I don’t think they’re to fond of 41 either.
Google and Yahoo news actually had W as the recipient...not 41. Then the next hour, the headlines changed. Either way, Odumbo is starting his 2012 campaign by looking “bipartisan”.
“Huh?”
I was thinking the same thing, while looking for some indication that this was satire.
beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing.
i would decline it. look at the list receiving the medal this year... it is an insult!!
a co-founder of the NRDC is on the list too.

WASHINGTON (November 17th, 2010) — President Obama today announced that John Adams, the founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, is to receive the 2010 Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor. In announcing his selection of Adams, the President cited a tenure “unparalleled by the leader of any other environmental organization,
Maybe Ozero is thinking ahead to make some friends in the ex-presidents club he is soon to join.
