President Obama dropped a bipartisan bombshell today, announcing he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom next year to ex-President George H.W. Bush.
The magnanimous gesture of bestowing the nations highest civilian honor to the 41st U.S. President came a day after ex-President George W. Bush gave a respectful nod to Obama at the groundbreaking of his library in Dallas.
The decisions of governing are on another Presidents desk, and he deserves to make them without criticism from me, Bush said at the site of his future library at Southern Methodist University.
NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, St. Louis (baseball) Hall of Famer Stan Musial, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Wall Street wizard Warren Buffett top the list of scholars, athletes, artists, achievers and do-gooders who will be presented the award at a White House ceremony early next year.
These outstanding honorees come from a broad range of backgrounds and theyve excelled in a broad range of fields, but all of them have lived extraordinary lives that have inspired us, enriched our culture, and made our country and our world a better place. I look forward to awarding them this honor, Obama said.
The rest of the list includes civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), environmentalist John H. Adams, poet Maya Angelou, Holocaust survivor Gerda Weissmann Klein, optometrist murdered by the Taliban Dr. Tom Little, civil rights activist Sylvia Mendez, disabled rights advocate Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and former AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney.
Or then again....excuse the/my ‘new world order’, crap the Bush crime family has espoused. Still, people and FReepers fall, for the NWO Bush crap. Wake the heck up FReepers and America! My God. New World Order gandydancers working together.
The government party is circling the wagons.
Of course, he’s going with Plan B in kissing up to the GOP after such a disaster of the elections. For anyone with half a brain it won’t play but from what we’ve seen lately there aren’t many functioning brains out there.
One Progressive patting another Progressive on the back. Touching.

I rather thought it meant that since he said without criticism that he meant he'd just keep his criticisms to himself....needless to say if W had any compliments it wouldn't be necessary to keep quiet. So actually it was a subtle way of criticizing.
No Order of Lenin?
It figures that Obama would award John Sweeney and John Lewis. It’s good to see Stan the Man get awarded. He’s 90 years old and I’ve heard his health has declined over the last year or two.
I question the timing.
Im sure Bush I would prefer a medal from a real President.
I’d pull a Cheney and tell 0bama to go screw himself.
FUBO!!!
Remember that great pix of Ted and Stan posing at/from the ‘56 or ‘57 Allstar game? Oh boy these kids today have no idea. Mickey...Duke....Ted....Stan...Ernie...Yogi...Mays, Robinson,(yeah Frank....not the over rated Jackie Robinson), Bobby Richardson, Clete boyer....Pee wee.... etc!!!
You beat me to it. I can just hear the conspiracy theories now.

Maya Angelou?
John Sweeney?
Here, Mr. Bush, take this shiny trinket that means absolutely nothing to me but might impress those on your side as a sort of capitulation that will engender a new level of trust that I will take advantage of to bury a knife in their backs.
Kind of like a Cub Scout giving an Eagle Scout a Merit Badge.
How bout make zero hand it to him 10,000 feet up, sky-diving?
Pardon me, I need to go hurl here in Texas. brb
Kind of like a slug under a rock next to a Cub Scout giving an Eagle Scout a merit badge.
