I know Andrew Jackson resigned from the Senate halfway through his term in 1825 and by 1828 he was president.
Good point. In some strange ways, I see parallels between Jackson and Palin. Both from the frontier. Both seemed “unpolished” to the upper class who wanted to control everything. Both were popular with ordinary folks. Both liked states rights, but respected the role of the federal government. And both knew how to handle a gun.
maybe she could travel around the country explaining that out to everyone if you think it will help.

Jackson was considered too uncoth and uneducated to be president by the elite of the day.
Jackson ran against the Washington establishment.
Jackson was very religious (and open about it).
Jackson’s supporters were stereotyped as uneducated rubes.
Jackson was accused of lowering the prestige of the presidency.
Jackson was at the forefront of a movement that challenged the entrenched interests in Washington.
While I don’t agree with everything Jackson did, when you look over his entire life span (not just the years he was in the White House) there is no doubt Jackson was one of the most important/infulential men in American history.
While Palin hasn’t led men into battle (and saved the southern US from foriegn rule) she very well—like Jackson—become the figurehead of a larger movement. An anti-Washington; anti-establishment; anti-elite; return the power to the people political movement.
