WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Food and Drug Administration will rule that caffeine is an unsafe food additive to alcoholic beverages, effectively making products such as Four Loko and Joose prohibited for sale in the United States, according to Senator Charles Schumer of New York. Additionally, the Federal Trade Commission plans to notify manufacturers that they are engaged in the potential illegal marketing of unsafe alcoholic drinks, Schumer said in a statement. Joose maker United Brands argues that the product contains less caffeine than colas and isn't aware of injury or harm associated with its products.

Word!
LOL, I wish!
The magical leviafed will simply grow back!
And my Jack and Coke!
Sadly true. I guess “salting the slug” should be added to the list after “carry out trash” “mow lawn” and “scrub toilet”; just part of ongoing maintenance.
:-/
Not away entirely, just cut back and watched themselves. There are unscuplous companies and people out there that need to be watched.
I don't want to be living in a China style environment where I have to wonder if the vitamin tablet I'm taking has toxins in it because some company was to lazy to clean out their storage tanks from another line of product they make.

(sales of Nodoz to skyrocket)

We can expect another round of actions to enforce their requirement that alcohol and caffeine never be allowed to mix, including restrictions on what drinks can be served in bars, etc.
It is no longer about safety. Now it is about compliance. The government makes a demand, and then ratchets up the pressure until you comply. Body scans, cell phones, caffeinated drinks, whatever... The important thing is that when they say jump, you jump.
Or a Rum Coke.
I wonder if we will be going down the road France and some other European countries have by banning energy drinks so they can’t be mixed with alcohol.
Four Loko is pretty dangerous one can is equal to two cups of coffee and a six pack of beer. It would take about 3 Red Bull and Vodkas to be equal. Pretty much everyone I know who has started out a night drinking Four Loko ended up blacked out. Probably why it already on its way to being banned in OK.
