There are countries where it has worked, Sweden, etc. The Netherlands could be construed as socialist. I think it’s Finland where everyone makes about the same salary no matter what their jobs and from what I’ve heard they’re very happy.

Problem is you must have a population with a good work ethic - once the takers start multiplying then it starts crumbling.

Hard to imagine the US ever making this work however, it’s just not our culture and we have too many people here who would never get off their butts as long as the politicians make someone else pay their way.

When was the last time you heard of a life saving medical innovation coming out of Sweden or Finland? So much for socialism working.

BTW I play online poker at Full Tilt poker and listen to Europeans (Germans and Scandinavians mostly) b*tch about the taxes they pay and the cost of everything from gas to beer.

They also have lived under the umbrella of the US Military for decades and they did not have to project power beyond their own borders.
