He's not my favorite senator, and he occasionally goes way off the reservation. But the word "RINO" has no meaning if you are going to apply it to a person with those ratings, just because you don't like who he supports for President.2009 - ACU Rating 88 2009 - Lifetime ACU Rating 89 On the issues: Hard-Core Conservative 2009 - Heritage Alliance -- 84% 2009 - Club for Growth - 88% 2007-2008 - Christian Coalition of America - 90% NRA Rating - A+ National Right-to-Life Center -- 100 Family Research Council - 88 NARAL - 5 ACLU - 0
Again, there are a few troubling aspects of Orrin Hatch. But he's hardly a liberal or a moderate when it comes to most issues conservatives care about, and his 2009 ratings suggest he hasn't turned squishy-liberal in his old age.
My guess is his RINO label comes from his half-hearted support of various forms of amnesty, which is wildly unpopular with the locals. Especially those of us in S. Utah, as we are totally overrun with amigos, being only 6 miles from the AZ border.
The locals are sick of the packed emergency rooms. My own doctor (who is a transplanted SF lib!) has now closed her practice to all but private pay and private insurance patients. (long story here, but she’s had enough, too) She intends to retire upon full implementation of Obamacare.
They ARE taking local jobs, for below normal wages. I spoke to a contractor just this weekend who is hiring illegals at $ 5.00 an hour. I asked him why, and he said “My other choice is to go out of business, because my competitors are doing it.”
The locals are tired of standing behind them in line at the grocery store, with their food stamp card. These gals are always pregnant, and they have at least two other kids in tow.
The schools are diminishing in quality and going down fast. Most of these kids are not only NOT proficient in English, which is expected, but they are not proficient in Spanish, either. Nor are their parents! It has become a nightmare here. And there is no “backup” option of a system of private/parochial schools, such as the network of Catholic schools back east. What a mess.
Everytime Orrin Hatch opens his trap with another heart-tugging story about the plight of the illegals, he loses more voters here. Because we can see with our own two eyes that we’re being robbed blind.
