Sgt. Jason J. McCluskey was laid to rest on Saturday with hundreds of his friends, family members and comrades in attendance. And there were hundreds more standing outside the First Baptist Church in McAlester listening to his memorial service via tall standing loudspeakers. And still there were hundreds more lining the roads and intersections from the church to the cemetery waving American Flags and patriotic signs. And there were yet hundreds more at his graveside services at the Tannehill cemetery.
The 26 year old Army paratrooper was killed in action on November 4th in Afghanistan. During his tour of duty Sgt. McCluskey was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his heroism. Jasons grandmother Anita McCluskey said that her grandsons mission in life was to be a protector and defender, and that is what he did. The small town of McAlester in South-Eastern Oklahoma came together as a community to honor their fallen hero and to honor the nation for which he laid down his life. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church made the trip from Kansas to spread their message of hate at Sgt. McCluskeys funeral. The group whose hatred of homosexuals has inexplicably been channeled into highly offensive protests at military funerals, discovered that they were in the wrong town on Saturday.
The Tulsa World reports that the half-dozen Westboro protesters were easily drowned out by the friends and neighbors of Sgt. McCluskey who shouted USA, USA, USA and countered the God hates America message of the protesters with a proud show of American patriotism. After enduring the stringing rebuke of McAlester patriots, the protesters returned to their minivan only to find that both passenger-side tires had been slashed. To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires,

They forgot the sand for the gas tank.
Maybe they didn’t.
The “hissing heard round the world!”
Most of the Phelps crew are lawyers. They sue anyone who does anything against them. I wouldn’t put it past them to sue the family of the fallen soldier for over the tire slashing.
Makes my day!
The US Supreme Court has proclaimed burning the American flag as the one-and-only form of "protected symbolic speech". Of what consequence are a couple of tires?
If the slime sues, the defendant's attorney has to remember that the prorated value of the tires be used. Otherwise, this could be a scan for Westboro to get free new tires, plus punitive damages.
Anybody can sue anybody, winning in court is another matter. With no legal way for the ‘Burros to force an investigation of who was responsible (McAlester chief of police: “Tire slashing? What tire slashing?”), the good ole Okie rednecks will force the Westie boys to royally get lost.
God, I am so torn!
Thought A:
* I can’t condone vandalism and I MUST support free speech — we show our TRUE support for the 1st Amendment by allowing speech we despise.
* Wasn’t shouting them down and blocking them enough?
Thought B:
* Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress is a valid legal concept - “Free Speech” is not absolute and speech designed SPECIFICALLY to hurt someone one purpose can and should be curtailed. This is doubly true for our fallen heroes.
* As the OP said — The Tea Party was an act of vandalism and if these people get enough guff that costs them personally, the may go away.
I don’t have an answer for myself...
Why......They had`AAA.
>>Why......They had`AAA.<<
Always good to have a tie-breaker.
:)
(I am going with Thought B unless and until I am talked out of it)
The Westboro Baptist Church is not a church! It is the Phelps family. The head of that family must be a HOMOSEXUAL because he rants about homosexuality!!!!
There is a nice little “bomb factory” in McAlester, OK. Great people, but they do not tolerate anti-Americanism.
Oklohoma is NOT Obozo country. Not a single county in the state voted for him. Not one.
These Dumb Shiites messed with Little Dixie?
LOL
Lucky their tires were all that got slashed.
Or maybe his mother was frightened by a gay while she was pregnant with him. Politics-wise, these are ‘rats.
Cross your fingers.
There sure is and they are all over Oklahoma.
They should try this in Pryor and see how that goes.
Same in Amarillo, but upscale a bit on yield.
Locals there think much like those in OK. I lived in Piedmont for 7 years and traveled that state and several others for many more. We loved OK, and the people.
Hartshorne, Pittsburg County Bump!
