Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a tea party hero, said Sunday hes not too far to the right to get elected president, but that he has no plans right now to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012.
Asked by "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace Do you think you could you elected president in 2012, or do you think you are too far to the right, DeMint chuckled.
I dont think Im far to the right at all, said DeMint, who cruised to reelection to another six-year term this month while also emerging as something of a king maker for tea party candidates across the country. I think this election shows that my views of balancing the checkbook are not radical at all.
Right now,' he added, "I have no plans to run for president. Im looking for someone who will have the courage and leadership abilities to come out and make the hard decisions that we need to turn this country away from a cliff.
I believe that Sen. DeMint will run in 2012, and I believe that he will run Obama out of town.
He can’t really fault Gov. Palin on courage or leadership.
Perhaps DeMint and Palin are both waiting to see what the other will do. After all they do greatly admire and support each other.
I would like to see the GOP factions stop skirmishing among themselves and use that energy to take on the Marxists.
DeMint vs. Steele, Rove vs. Palin - these dust-ups are juvenile and disturbing.
Set out the guiding principles and get it done!!!
He has emphatically stated that he is NOT running for president in 2012.
If he runs for president anyway, after having stated numerous times that he would not, what would that say about his character?
Why would you still trust him if he reneges on his promise to the people and his colleagues in the Senate? How would he be different from any lowlife politician, if he broke his word on this?
Would you go ahead and support him anyway, after he lied to you?
I think far too highly of Jim DeMint to believe that he would break his word like that.
“I believe that Sen. DeMint will run in 2012, and I believe that he will run Obama out of town.”
As much as I like Sarah, I really think that DeMint has a much better chance in November...and he is AWESOME.
DeMint is John the Baptist in this little play.
Without DeMint and Palin the success of the 2010 elections would not have been possible. We might have elected Republicans because of dissatisfaction with Obama, but they would have been Karl Rove “Good Old Boy/Girl” Republicans ... not conservatives.
My read between the lines is DeMint would prefer Palin or maybe Pence run.
A person changing his mind about running this early in a cycle means nothing , at least to me.
2012 is still a ways off but one things for sure, conservatives can win if they stick to their principles. If they present Husein with real tax cut bills, if they are seen to be looking out for the average taxpayer, it won’t matter if they fail, people will still see it. I like Rush’s idea of presenting tax cuts and cuts in 0bamacare every day and putting the progressive party on defense. Make them defend this nonsense and make them own it. Same with amnesty , cap and tax and all their other BS.

I am still evaluating DeMint in regards to matters like Lindsey Graham and Nikki Haley.
Has Demint been for Graham and against Haley????????
DeMint’s relationship to the South Carolina GOP leadership that supports Graham and opposed Haley is key to understanding if his conservative words and actions of late reflect principle or political show.
Sarah Palin has opposed GOP RINO insiders like the Murkowski’s in Alaska.
By her actions she has shown she is an outsider conservative.
That puts Sarah Palin at the top of my list.
Demint has invested a lot in outside of South Carolina campaigns but where was he two years ago (2008) when Lindsey Graham was opposed by a put up phony opponent (the South Carolina GOP chairman)?
Count me in DeMint2012 bandwagon!
I’m not deeply familiar with his background, but based on his recent policy positions and (I would say) respected image, he sounds like the best conservative candidate for 2012. Not too many distractions with him and independents would deem him as a safe pick.
Go, DeMint!
This guy is the real thing.
I think we need DeMint in the Senate. He is about the only voice we have there.
I like DeMint, but I don’t like having senators as presidents.
