Colton Harris-Moore - the 19-year-old from Washington state known as the “Barefoot Bandit” - stole planes, boats and thousands of dollars and was on the run from authorities for more than two years. ~snip~

Colton eventually left Washington State and the FBI became involved when he was on the run in Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming. It turned into an international manhunt when Colton crossed Canadian borders, and even managed to fly a stolen plane all the way to the Bahamas.

After stealing four planes, luxury cars, power boats, thousands of dollars, while being barefoot the entire time, his signature lifestyle finally caught up to him.

I don't know how this will work out legally. But, I always thought this guy would make a bundle off selling his story in the end.

There are several reasons he was able to elude police for so long. First, was he always used his stolen vehicles for a short period of time. Cars were abandoned quickly, boats and especially aircraft were used for one way trips. Second he knew the area and was frequenting island that have a lot of vacation property on them. From empty houses he could live for a couple days and steal what he found there. Third, he was probably getting help in some form from his family.

He eventually got caught because he left the area he knew, repeatedly stole things from victims that were at the crime scenes everyday, and as a pasty white kid from Washington he stood out in the Bahamas.

I have no sympathy for this guy. He is a sociopath who stole very expensive items from people and destroyed them. He deserves a very long prison term in general population.

To me, stealing a man's boat or airplane is like stealing a cowboy's horse. Rope, knot, tree.

The kid was a glass cockpit cripple, too. He didn't steal and low brow airplanes. The last three were a 182T with a G1000, a Cirrus, and a Corvallis.

Any and all profits from any company or individual should be legally obligated to those agencies used to catch him. And to pay for his prison stay, which is a lot better than staying in a weekly rental motel, like some kids have to.
