CORBIN LEXINGTON (AP) Kentucky Senate President David Williams told a group of law students that state legislators, not voters, should choose members of the U.S. Senate comments that drew a negative reaction from Kentuckys two senators.
Declaring himself a tea partier, Williams on Wednesday called for repeal of the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which provides for popular election of U.S. senators, the Lexington-Herald Leader reported.
Williams is seeking the Republican nomination for governor next year.

“It’s a great idea, but irrelevant and impossible, bordering on feint and strawman.”
This may be true, but we must also be true and frank about the defect introduced to our constitution as illustrated by their effect on our history and the logical conflict of interest they make.
“Seeing the California Lege in action...Id prefer to make it unrepealable.”
The Califorina Legislator would nominate democrat senators but them senators would not be inclined to take power away from the Califorina legislator and towards Washington D.C.
You must remember that.
Totally agree. I just don't want any Congressmen or any of our people wasting time on the issue. It isn't fixable until we have unassailable control of all 3 branches.
fieldmarshaldj has a dissenting opinion at #17, I need to re-look at the history. Right now I’m not sure which is better, we seem to be in a bad place now with respect to the power of the senate and how people pick “the senate” as “a career”, but it may have been worse before A17 passed.
Actually on this matter we merely need control of 2/3rd of the state legislators or 2/3rds of both houses of congress.
Once we repose such an amendment getting it ratified is simply a matter of time. I say this because of the corrupt way the court and house has interpreted the ratification process.
According to the Federal Government can only ratify in the positive or not, they cannot withdraw their ratification and a constitutional amendment remains out there for ratification indefinably.
So once such an amendment has been proposed we can take our time in a state by state campaign to get it thou. Eventually we will get a majority in 38 different states, although not necessarily at the same time.
The best part is if the Feds try to arbitrarily change the rules on this exploit we can nully the 14th amendment under their new rules lol.
This has been a long-running Freeper goal. I hope it gains traction. Then repeal the 16th Amendment, too.
