The House Should Curb Obama's Extravagant Lifestyle
The American Thinker ^ | November 12, 2010 | Lauri B. Regan

Pundits, political analysts, and politicians on both sides of the aisle have offered their recommendation for items which should be placed at the top of the 112th Congress's legislative agenda. Surprisingly, in light of the negative press the Obamas have received relating to their recent junket to India, so far as I have seen, not one person has suggested including legislation limiting the amount of taxpayer funds that may be expended on presidential trips -- official or otherwise -- and the White House party budget. Like all government agencies, the White House operates on the basis of appropriations that originate in the House of Representatives, and it is incumbent on the House to exercise its responsibilities in guarding the taxpayers' money.

The beauty of our governing system of checks and balances is that presidential overreach can be curtailed by Congress. To borrow the president's own analogy, the voters decided to ditch Obama's drive to take the country on the road to the farthest reaches of the left's progressively ideological hopes and dreams. They instead elected legislators who represent the more reasonable values of mainstream Americans, who reside on the center-right side of the highway. We can therefore expect that over the last two years of what is expected to be Obama's only term in office, Republicans will keep Obama in check, making the passage of any further ideologically driven domestic legislation highly unlikely.

And as Republicans promise to end the earmarks that infuriate so many Americans, the "Young Guns" should add one more notch to their holster. They should draft a bill that prohibits the profligate spending of Obama, who, in addition to misunderstanding the mandate of the American people upon his election in 2008 as well as the "shellacking" of the 2010 midterms, completely misunderstands that he was hired as an executive to run the country, not anointed a king to feed on the fruits of the labor of hardworking taxpayers

Actually, I think they’ve been on too many “official”trips and vacations lately to have much time for big WH parties.

But you are right-—they should document EVERY PENNY they spend. Moochers.

and it is incumbent on the House to exercise its responsibilities in guarding the taxpayers' money.

Have you ever heard such a joke? Both parties have been at the feeding trough gorging themselves for far too long. Don't expect them to change now.

To them expenses on the president are trivial.

Finally, someone has brought this up. If the announced costs for this trip are accurate (approximately $200-250 MILLION per day), the treasury would have saved $2 BILLION. Then, there are the trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Spain this summer alone. I had read that the President was given an allowance for White House entertainment, and everything over had to come from the occupant’s pocket. One article I read said that George Bush had to buy his own peanut butter and jelly. I’m sure, though, that rule has gone by the wayside.

The Zer0’s never earned their keep so it’s no surprise that they are irresponsible with money.

Zer0’s decadent personality is much like the Kennedys.

If the new Speaker continues to fly commercial and our side draws attention to the Obama Regime’s tendency to make Marie Antoinette look frugal, their waste of our money on luxuries will turn out for the best. Even with their massive personal spending, that’s still a trivial waste compared with the extra $3T they have wasted over the past two years on rewards for their union allies.

Disagree.
Let this fake and his frightful wife continue to travel.
The more America sees of them, the less...

The House should demand an unimpeachable (no pun intended) Birth Certificate.

Congress should get the IRS to declare all that stolen/spent party loot as unreported income. Seize their assets, indict them on tax fraud.

Let the Beast eat the Antichrist.

stop him? lol

Heck I'll throw in a few bucks to pay for a trip for the family to travel to Fiji to live it up!

Every time Obama goes on these little jaunts we secure 2012 a little further, heck we need to encourage him to take some more friends next time!

Americans have come to expect Michelle to wear $500 sneakers and carry $2,000 purses while dining on lobster and caviar prepared by her personal chef and traveling to five-star hotels on the Spanish coast. They are used to her wastefulness — and her hypocrisy, considering the lavishness that occurs while the Obamas ask Americans to make sacrifices for the good of the nation
