Christine O'Donnell Turns Political Celebrity on Leno
CBS ^ | November 11, 2010. | Dan Farber

Christine O'Donnell may have lost the Delaware senate race on Nov. 2, but she hasn't lost her political celebrity status. Instead of preparing to represent her state in Washington, she was on the talk show circuit, joining Jay Leno on Wednesday's "Tonight Show".

Leno asked O'Donnell about her future plans, and if she might run for public office again.

"I don't know if I will run again. I want to keep that option open," she said.

O'Donnell said she isn't interested in returning to the talk show circuit she frequented in the past. "I did the pundit thing, and that's what got me into trouble in the first place."

She said she regretted that her controversial comments overshadowed what she was trying to convey on the campaign trail. She maintained that she was a "kid" in the '90s, when the comments were made.

''It was a ministry opportunity, more than a political statement," she said of her former talk show days.

Like her role model Sarah Palin, O'Donnell is considering a book deal and reality show offers.

"I'm not necessarily interested in a reality show," she said, unless the show dealt with issues that impact peoples' lives, such as the 30-minute ad her campaign produced.

Leno also asked O'Donnell about GOP rainmaker Karl Rove demeaning her candidacy.

"Karl Rove is not going to be buying me a Maserati in the future," she said,. She said that Mike Castle, the Republican who she defeated in the Delaware Republican primary, and Karl Rove should have endorsed her, as Sarah Palin did.

LOL I think it was just an OBVIOUS observation that Karl isn’t a real big fan of Christine and won’t be going out of his way to be doing her any favors. And for the record, Karl is a MORON... I’d buy her a Maserati if I had Karl’s cash. Or she could ride in my car....

This refers to gifts bestowed by Adam Sandler, who produced a hit movie called “Grown Ups” to his co-stars. Sandler credited them with helping him make a ton of money and decided to show his gratitude to them by buying each a $200,000 Maserati, the sedan of choice among the Hollywood set these days.

Perhaps this was a bit of self deprecating humor on the part of Miss O'Donnell.

Maserati is a luxury sports cars. But Rove seems to drive a Jaguar. From 2007: White House pranksters are literally marking the wrap-up of top aide Karl Rove’s career at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, reports CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer. Rove’s Jaguar, parked in the lot adjacent to the West Wing, has been covered with plastic wrap. Two stuffed eagle toys are mounted on the trunk, and signs posted on the car read “King Karl” and “I love Obama.”

Rove, the top White House political strategist who recently announced his resignation, left his car on the driveway while visiting Texas and traveling with President Bush. He was due back in Washington Wednesday evening.

Really? I stayed out of the Rove/O’Donnell debate... But what’s next? Colbert? Springer?

Awesome.

Pretty clear she doesn’t have the level of maturity and judgment many have charged.

I'd say the statement means there is no love lost between them. (hence, no expensive gift forthcoming). It is a hyperbolic way of saying she expects nothing from him.

She's right, the GOP should have backed her once she was the candidate. The failure of the GOP to wholeheartedly back Angle, Miller, and O'Donnel is ever a reminder to me that they'd rather throw an election they think a Conservative will take when the seat won't be decisive in a majority/minority situation than let a conservative win who isn't their hand-picked pal and have to try and stuff a RINO in around them in the future.

Well its seriously doubtful that Leno would have on the victorious little crumudgeon balded marxist Coons on his show anytime soon-—or ever!

Rove pooped his drawers on nationwide TV. It will be hard to take him seriously in the future.

Well, I hold out some hope for her — at least she said she realized the “I am a witch” ad was a mistake.

On the other hand, she said they were actively working to get ON the Bill Maher show until he blackmailed them, and then decided not to bother.
