Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann dropped out of the race for House Republican Conference chair on Wednesday night, ensuring that the GOPs leadership elections will go on without any serious competition.
In a statement sent to a handful of reporters Wednesday evening, the tea party favorite said that Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling has her enthusiastic support for his candidacy for the top messaging post in the GOP.

I would rather Bachmann had won but I’m glad she didn’t press the issue. Let’s go into 2011 all being allies and friends, with no contention between us. At least for now. Let’s just see how things unfold on the House floor, and not make a big issue out of this.
In policy debates, Bachmann will still be able to use the new Tea Party Caucus -- which she founded -- to keep an eye on Republican policies. If she were a member of leadership, she would be close to top Republicans like Boehner and Cantor but would have a tougher time opposing their agenda. She's now free to use the Tea Party Caucus -- which may grow in the new majority -- to oppose GOP legislation she finds unfavorable.Good.
Jeb Hensarling is as conservative as any member up there and has the respect of every Tea Party member I know here in Texas!Thank you for posting that.Michelle is a GREAT lady and has done the right thing here for which she has only gained MORE respect and admiration!
No need to than me!
The truth is the truth!
Simple as that.
Michele Bachmann is a courageous and intelligent person who understands the importance of a unified front to confront the RATS. She and her "opponent" are good friends and colegues. She made a mature choice for the benefit of "our side".Thank you for posting that.Your comment implying that the Tea Party is getting hosed by the GOP elites indicates a disappointing level of immaturity often demonstrated by "principled conservatives" who would rather concede the field to the RATS and "send a message" than work within the party and compromising to a certain degree.
You and your ilk live in an "all or nothing" world and we all pay repeatedly for your folly and inability to plan and execute a long campaign.
I like Texas and I like Texans. The real Texans. Not the ones who arrived last week “over the river”.
Good conversation;)
In the House of Representatives Michele is an equal among equals. Too much emphasis is given to Committee Chairs and they are only “powerful” if they are principled and persuasive. Those positions also catch flak.
Michele has made a wise choice - and she just made a friend.

GOP at the crossroads. If they do not change, they will die. If it’s back to business as usual, they serve no purpose. Being conservative is not enough. Mouthing conservative ideals is not enough.
We need leaders who will adamantly oppose bigger government and push to curtail spending. Leaders who will strive for repeal of the laws which the Democrats shoved down our throats during the past two years. Leaders who will insist that the Federal Government adhere to the Constitution, and who will place a high value on liberty.
We are in a battle for our country, and for our children’s future. We must win, or die trying.
The idea of Michele winning statewide in MN is pure fantasy.
Rod Grams won statewide.
