PIR & NASCAR FANS CELEBRATE VETERANS DAY
Pre-Race Festivities to include Salute to Active Military and Veterans
To help NASCAR fans celebrate Veterans Day, Phoenix International Raceway will pay tribute to the generations of men and women who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pre-race show beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.
For the race, the No. 39 Chevy will sport a new patriotic paint scheme by The U.S. Army and Stewart-Haas Racing. Ryan Newman winner of the last Sprint Cup Series event at PIR in April teamed up with Phoenix International Raceway to create a special military ticketing program designed to honor Veterans Day and provide tickets for military families. The program titled Troop Newman is part of PIRs Salute to Military Families initiative.
The Kobalt Tools 500 pre-race show will feature more than 60,000 American Flags waving in the Grandstands donated by the Paralyzed Veterans of America. The spectacular pre-race show will also include:
· A "Welcome Home" ceremony for 150 guardsmen from the Arizona National Guard
· Recognition of Arizona selections for the U.S. Army All American Bowl
· A performance by The U.S. Army Band
· An aerial entrance to the track by skydivers carrying the American Flag
· Display of a 200-foot American Flag by Arizona Project Challenge
· National anthem by acclaimed trumpeter Dr. Jesse McGuire
· F-16 fly-over by Luke Air Force Base
· Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard
The Kobalt Tools 500, NASCARs semi-final race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, starts at 1 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN. NASCAR in the Arizona desert: Phoenix International Raceway

I was busy, but got to watch at most of the race, just not able to post.
I think I may pull for Happy too, much to the chagrin of a couple around here. ;)

Dogs are great in the good times & even better in the bad times...
Mrs. HDX2 summed it up - Denny left with the points lead and acts like a loser & J.J. is 2nd and acts like a winner. The big ‘mo’ has shifted...
Told S.T. earlier that J.J. need to check the luck reservior he’s been using the last couple of years - guess there’s still a bit left in there. I know diddly squat about Homestead’s track..gonna havta learn quick.

OK, thanks.
I had a little mix-up on a couple of teams as to who managed them. Did a little hunting through past race threads early this AM and have it pretty well straight now. Still don’t know who manages Bush Country or Wallbanger though, but it’s lookin’ like it may not matter.

I’d rather Denny win then Happy but this would be the sweetest win yet for J.J. if he were to pull it off in Miami. A J.J. win next week would result in much peace, joy and tranquility in the dog house.
Didja notice that the 24’s pit crew cost him 6 spots on a caution yesterday? Problems with the front tire changer...
Gonna be gone today, road trip, TSO concert in Portland tonight.

Well if Flash can’t have it, I’m not really into pushing for JJ to get more championships, so by default, I’ll pull for Happy.

I’ve been to some concerts in the past couple of years, but none with lights like that since the 70s.

Yeah, that's some serious global warming there. The last concert I attended was Ricky Skaggs at HSU. We are talking about buying season tickets for the Arkley Center here in Eureka and loan them to family members because they sell out quickly when a good group comes here.
Meanwhile back at Chase and the press is breathless...

Last one I went to was ELO for a CC Symphony fundraiser.
As a friend, who is also a patron said, I don’t think they knew who they were hiring.

Photos show only a fraction of the lasers & lights they used. Migrain headache came from getting home at the time my alarm normally goes off; one of these years I’ll have the wisdom to spend the night up there instead of driving back to Bend after the concert.
OK, one race to go and I’ve already blown two days that I could have used changing drivers.

It only took me one time to learn NOT to drive back from Fort Worth after a race. ;)

Had an over night bag packed but $$ for the hotel plus $$$$$ for shopping for clothes if we stayed up there meant my migrain saved me about $400.00.
Headaches gone. Sweated it out yesterday in the last yard clean-up. Big snow storm coming in tonight; flurries & high temps in the 30’s for the next 8 days is forecast. Wish I woulda had time to get my Christmas lights up (my BIL next door did) as tromping around in the snow putting up lights is not my idea of fun.
Drivers tentatively selected. Race starts at 1:00PM eastern & menu will be munchies - hot-wings, etc.
Make it a great day.

Thankfully I have family that I can stay with and enough of them so I don’t wear out my welcome.
Even with all this global warming, snow is not really much of a concern down here. And I am very happy with that.
