The Narnia books never approach the sophistication of Tolkien’s Middle Earth (the religious symbolism being a bit ham-handed), but they are quite enjoyable overall.

The Narnia books were written specifically for children, unlike "Lord of the Rings".

Granted (although "The Hobbit" was for children); I recall reading Narnia for the first time when I was in my teens and thinking that the religious symbolism was a tad over-obvious. Lewis tends to hit one over the head with his points. He's not subtle.
