I've had positive feelings about the notion of The Bell Curve. John Taylor Gatto mostly disabused me of these. Read his Underground History of American Education. (Amazon link) (free pdf copy link You can probably search this pdf for references to Bell Curve and/or Murray.)

Black kids did good in school in NYC when they went to the dozen or so Catholic schools.

Gatto’s got it.

Schools work to infantilize kids and we see that success with the level of immaturity in today’s 20 & 30 year olds.

The entire government schooling model is a failure - age grades and grading simply reinforce failure.

Adult life is about mastery of skills. Schools rarely teach mastery.
