Wrong Message To Send To India
IBD Editorials ^ | November 8, 2010 | Staff

Diplomacy: Did we hear right? President Obama thinks India needs more bureaucrats? His advice to Indian youth to shun material gain and enter "public service" said as much. Evidently, he doesn't know India very well.

Dinesh D'Souza took a lot of flak for his hypothesis in a recent book, "The Roots of Obama's Rage," suggesting that the president seems animated by resentful, outdated post-colonial attitudes inherited from his father, a Kenyan bureaucrat. But something was oddly retro in the 1960s-like message the president had for India's youth in Mumbai on Saturday.

"I would just suggest that I hope some of you decide to go ahead and get involved in public service — which can be frustrating," he said. "But India is going to need you not just as businessmen but also as leaders who are helping to reduce bureaucracy and make government more responsive and deliver services more efficiently."

"That's going to be just as important in the years to come," he added. "Because otherwise you're going to get an imbalance where some are doing very well but broad-based economic growth is not moving as quickly as it could."

Aside from the contradictory nonsense about reducing bureaucracy by adding bureaucrats, or politicians, the thrust of the message couldn't have been more at odds with India's growth as a nation.

“But India is going to need you not just as businessmen but also as leaders who are helping to reduce bureaucracy and make government more responsive and deliver services more efficiently.”

Obama seems to know nothing of the crushing bureaucracy of India.

IDB is right. Obama is indeed a neo-colonialist , he sells his Chicago Black Power schtick around the world, and pretends to be superior to the naytve post colonial peoples.

He is no different that the colonialists, and his methid and style of diploacy is the same though. Will he use the neo-colonizing gun? We wait and see.

Damn! I would hope that this idiot of a President would have everyone up in arms! Just what do you need to determine that he is either crazy or ignorant of America and simply just trying to dethrone us.

This man is either evil or he is an illiterate asshole that is attempting to destroy America. Either way, he is going to destroy America.

I vote for he is either insane or ignorant - either way, he is destroying America and the citizens need to take charge!

“shun material gain and enter “public service” Funny how it works over here you enter Public service with little money and retire on a kings ransome—which is one of the reasons the politicans won’t leave and when they lose elections fair and square they cheat

. . . oddly retro in the 1960s-like message the
president had for India's youth . . . .

It is the same message he presented when he spoke at the
Arizona State University spring commencement in May, 2009.

The Progressive liberals fell in love with it.

India’s bureaucracy has been the number one thing holding it back.

He doesn’t have a clue about India. The manacles of its current bureaucratic culture are hindering its growth. It’s renowed for the hoops you have to jump through just to buy a train ticket or schedule a trip. By now all Americans are familiar with painful scripted customer service that has been put in the hands of Indian bureaucrats. The last thing they need is more government servants.

Yes, shun material wealth, like he did.

Why does he always seem to think it's okay to go to another country and advise/lecture his hosts.

Wouldn't he and our country be better served if he, instead of pontificating, took an interest in the host country and ASKED questions, take an interest in what THEY thought and what their country was about?

He's the quintessential ugly American -

I'm sure that the Indian people have heard all the stories that point to him being a muslim - certainly to all the direct evidences of his wide support for muslims. His answer - or non-answer - to the school girl about jihardists probably proved, to them, the stories true. Certainly the looks on the students faces didn't seem overly pleased at his defense of Islam.

The arrogance and breathtaking hubris to deliver such an ignorant statement could only come from someone who honestly believes that he is the most brilliant perswon to walk the earth.

I can just imagine the laughter the Indians will enjoy at our expense when our trailer park trash president and company leave.

"He's the quintessential ugly American"

I beg to differ - he's the ugly Kenyan. He exhibits none of the qualities of an American.
